CNN: Palin's unmarried teen daughter is preggers & hubby has DWI arrest
I'm more and more in love with this choice.

http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/09/01/palin.daughter/index.html

ST. PAUL, Minnesota (CNN) -- Bristol Palin, the 17-year-old daughter of Sarah Palin, is pregnant and will keep the baby and marry the father, a senior aide to Sen. John McCain confirmed to CNN Tuesday.

Republican presidential candidate McCain was aware of Bristol Palin's pregnancy before he chose her mother for his running mate, the aide said.

"Senator McCain knew this and felt in no way did it disqualify her from being vice president," said the aide. "Families have difficulties sometimes, and lucky for her she has a supportive family."

The 17-year-old, a senior in high school, is about five months along, in her second trimester, according to the aide.

http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/

A senior adviser to the McCain campaign confirmed Monday that Todd Palin, husband to Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin, was arrested for driving while intoxicated in 1984.

"Yes, 24 years ago he had a DWI," senior McCain adviser Steve Schmidt told reporters in St. Paul.

Schmidt was asked if he was worried about the news, and replied, “I was not.”

1. The DWI was 24 yrs ago when he was young & stupid.
Now, in his 40s, he shows his stupidity in other ways.

2. You know.....
I was mature enough when I was 24 to NOT drink and drive -- I knew better. We have a president whose drinking and driving was minimized, too. As someone who is adamant about NOT drinking and driving, I'm getting a little sick of this being minimized. I understand people make mistakes, but this is one that has the potential to kill other people.

4. Youthful Indiscetions Mean Different If Your A Repugnican
Henry Hyde cheated on his wife and ruined a marriage when he was in his 40s...and that was called a "youthful indiscretion", Booshie was nailed for a DUI in 1976 when he was nearly 30 and this was brushed off the same way (despite him continuing to admit he drank for another decade...or longer) but if you're a Democrat, then you're responsible for actions going back to when you were 7 years old and a future association with a member of the weather underground. There is no proportionality here as the GOOP and its corporate media enablers have a double standard that has allowed these stories to get minimized.

Now let's see how they spin this one...

25. I Admire Michelle More And More
You know the goons were trying to find something/anything to tear this woman...and the Obama family down. They wanted to find her being the angry black woman (a 2008 Angela Davis) and be assured if they had found she had a past of either drug use or pregnancy, we'd get it pounded at us 24/7 with the "what do we tell the children" bullshit.

It's a testament to Michelle's family as well as her own intelligence and class that she's raised her family with being an active and supportive partner with her husband. I admire the Obamas for moving the campaign to Chicago so they could keep their children out of the limelight and attempt for them to maintain a normal life...as opposed to Grannie Baracuda who is neglecting, exploiting and embarassing hers.

16. I drank when I was 13 and road rash from falling off my bike
convinced me that no, I did not drive better when I had a few, so I never did drive drunk.

However, people who didn't have my dubious record as a wild child and who obeyed the drinking age law might have been able to kid themselves behind the wheel of a car. They would continue to do so until either they wrecked out or got popped for DUI.

Since it was 24 years ago and he hasn't repeated it, I'd tend to dismiss it. Everybody gets one major mistake. If he learned from this one, more power to him.

29. Yes, you do. At least, you do here in WI.
If you are super-young, it may be handled in juvenile court and sealed, but if you're old enough to have a driver's license, a OWI will appear on your record (first time is an ordinance violation, later offenses are usually misdemeanors) whether you have a license or not.

Edited on Mon Sep-01-08 02:14 PM by bulloney
that may have occurred years before.

What I'm seeing with the shit being dug up on the Palin's is a simple case of the Republicans having to sleep in the bed that they made.

For years, they would oversaturate the airwaves with every little indiscretion that Clinton or other Democratic candidates had at one time in their lives, even to the point where they'd make stuff up.

The Republicans created this climate. Now they're learning that they have to live in it, too.

Ain't karma a bitch?

I have never smoked pot and no one believes me because back in the day everyone did, but its because the smell nauseates me so I never tried it, not to sound self-righteous. To be truthful I have used alcohol and drove in the past, but I wouldn't do it ever now. It only takes a drink or two to be over the .08 limit.

Edited on Mon Sep-01-08 01:47 PM by jpertello
http://forum.blackhairmedia.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=149639&PID=2719013

As a mother who actually did have premature rupture of amniotic membranes (leaking fluid as she called it)...let me just say that I was IMMEDIATELY sent VIA AMBULANCE to the emergency room and IMMEDIATELY placed on 100% bed rest by my physician. Meaning, I was told I could not GET OUT OF BED for any reason. at. all. No bathroom, no shower, no ambulation of any kind. I stayed that way UNTIL I went into labor. The two choices are remaining on bed rest until one develops an infection, or until one goes into labor. I was very informed about the seriousness of this condition. In my personal case, my honey and I had gone to Urgent Care because some fluid had come out when I thought i had to pee (this was my first baby and it was just a tinkle like pee)...we drove there, they tested the fluid.

Once they realized I was leaking amniotic fluid, they REFUSED to let me leave. Yes, I did try to beg to be able to just drive there with my honey, I wanted to pick up some items from home. I was told NO this is SERIOUS and you are going VIA AMBULANCE NOW.

So, in my own personal opinion based off experience I am shocked that they expect people to believe that a physician (actually since they are saying they KNEW the baby had Downs, then she should have really had a SPECIALIST handling her case, with pre-determined birth plans that should have included a NICU) would really approve of her not only NOT going immediately to a hospital, but also would think it's fine for her to finish a speech, wait for a flight, get on a plane *germs people* then drive past a hospital and go somewhere else she chose to deliver at without the specialist or NICU team. Interesting and hard to imagine.

Being allowed to fly, sure...the airline allows pregnant women to fly in this case in addition I am sure (as they have said) they could not tell she was pregnant. As a mother who had 4 children already, who I would assume would know the danger of leaking amniotic fluid, it is again interesting that she would want to have increased pressure while she is in labor.

Wow. Why even spin this tale? I am sure this is not the expected outcome when they thought they would easily feign a pregnancy.

Interesting picture of her daughter looking post-partum (mono I suppose)

Edited by Mz.TiNg - Today at 10:32am

Also, when I was carrying my own son almost 19 years ago I had a rupture of fluid at home and was immediately taken to the hospital and watched closely for infection. SP would have done better to go to the nearest hospital in TX if she truly had a rupture. Did she honestly act so irresponsibly with a special needs child who was possible in fetal distress?

11. What does this say about Alaska's red state reputation
Just a day before Palin was selected, a conservative Republican lady was talking to me about her concern about social moral issues like 'teen pregnancy'. I said we'd have higher moral standard if people had more opportunities like access to higher education and better jobs. I wonder what she would say now. That this was just a fluke. Or maybe that it's okay as long as the teen mom is caucasian.

means they both broke federal law, but only Obama broke state law too. Palin lived in a state where adults have been and are still free to grow and smoke their own cannabis at home thanks to a privacy clause in their state constitution.

you get DWI in lots of states if you drive a car in the MONTH after you smoke a joint. Failing a urine test for a joint smoked three or four weeks ago is enough for DWI. I risk DWI every time I drive whether I have smoked pot that day or not. Perhaps that is how he got busted too.

Cocaine use hurts Obama, DWI has the potential to kill someone else.

One could argue that the cocaine use hurts others by supporting the dealers who sell cocaine, contributing to crime associated with drug sales and abuse, etc -- I concede that. But Obama choosing to put that crap up his nose ultimately hurts him. Palin's husband choosing to get into a car and drive drunk has the potential to kill other people very directly.

which wasn't the issue AT ALL. Obama did cocaine -- no one said anything about doing cocaine and driving. The issue here is using a mind altering substance and getting behind the wheel of a car. What Obama did does have indirect negative effects on society but ultimately it hurts him. IF he had then gotten behind the wheel of a car and driven it'd be the same issue -- duh. But that WAS NOT the issue here.
