Why did Palin choose to violate her daughter's privacy rather than release her own medical records?
Sarah Palin could very easily have ended rumors about the possibility that Trigg was really Bristol's child by simply releasing her own medical records.

That she chose instead to reveal her daughter's out of wedlock pregnancy shows that Sarah Palin cares more for her own privacy than that of her daughter.

3. I think there just might be more to it than that..
Edited on Mon Sep-01-08 02:31 PM by Fumesucker
Frankly this ploy makes me more suspicious about who is the actual mother of Trigg Palin rather than less.

Edited for meaning.

4. Me too
This smacks of McCain's camp not knowing, then finding out and asking Palin, and Palin making up this version of the story because, frankly, if she did lie about the pregnancy, it's all over. This way, she could squeak out without closer examination. (she hopes)

2. Good point. And the recent baby too.
Edited on Mon Sep-01-08 02:31 PM by Betsy Ross
Why did she allow the baby to become news? Not respecting him either.

6. Put yourself in the mother's shoes..
I'm a dad and a grandfather, there is no way in hell I would have ever done anything like this.

And I don't even believe in "family values", unlike Sarah Palin.

21. Actually, I appreciate that many well-meaning moms of pregnant teenage girls would
do just as Sarah Palin may have done, and pretend the baby was hers, when it was actually her teen daughter's baby.

People are saying it's like Desperate Housewives. I've never seen the show but I hear this plot is not a new idea.

7. So her releasing her records would put an end to the idiots talking about this?
I'm sure we would never have known about Bristol's pregnancy if they didn't tell us right now. I'm sure it wouldn't have come out like a week before the election. Releasing this information right now in the middle of the hurricane news cycle is extremely smart.

9. Are you a parent?
No parent that really cared for their child would do what Sarah Palin just did.

Found any verifiable pictures of Sarah looking pregnant yet?

10. How long would she have been able to keep it secret?
So she doesn't care for her kid because she announced something that was going to come out anyway maybe a month or two before that occurred. Sorry don't see your logic here.

11. You aren't a parent..
*She* was the one who outed her kid's pregnancy..

That is not the same thing as having it come out anyway.

And if she didn't want the kid's pregnancy to become international news, all she had to do was politely decline McGigolo's offer.

But her ego and ambition wouldn't allow her to do that.

13. You remind me of someone.
I knew a man once whose 17 year old son had gotten into a lot of trouble and was facing some legal difficulties. He was trying to help his son out of this situation and I told him he should let his son face the very minor consequences of his actions. He asked me what parent wouldn't go to hell for their child. I told him a responsible one. Have a nice day.

16. You don't see any difference your friend's son and
Palin's daughter? It's one thing to live with the consequences of your actions, and another for those consequences to be exposed on a national and international stage? I was a 17-year-old teenage mother. I chose to have my son, I lived with the consequences of my actions. And it was freaking HARD to live that out among my limited circle of family and friends. I can't imagine my mother reveal my intimate, personal struggles to the whole world for her own political gain. There is no comparison you can draw between your limited circle of friends and what Bristol Palin is going through. It's a matter of scale.

22. It's all about projecting the ILLUSION of family values.
What I'm saying is, the illusion of family values projected onto your neighborhood is not uncommon, and generally goes unchallenged, out of respect for privacy.

But when you get into a bigger game (such as Vice President) the same illusion of family values projected onto national TV screens will necessarily demand a higher degree of scrutiny. There is a more thorough background check when you might be expected to lead the country.

...Which makes me wonder if Sarah Palin was properly vetted for the VP nomination.

24. Bristol Palin's consequences for becoming pregnant
Should be to have it spread over the entire world?

That is a remarkably severe consequence for doing something that her mother quite possibly did too.

Sarah Palin "eloped" at a young age and then had a baby somewhat less than nine months later.

But her little indiscretion wasn't broadcast over the whole damn planet.

In fact that daughter already looks bigger than Palin did at 7 month.

15. You know that is one heckuva good point
Daughter could've just stayed home in Alaska or not made public appearances and maybe the story stays hidden till after election.

This was a dumb way for Sarah Palin to scotch an internet rumor. MSM weren't going to touch this story till Sarah let the cat out of the bag.

Of course if all of Wasilla knew as Palin claims then it could've still come out. Saw a strange item in Time Magazine report on this that McCain campaign told Wasilla people that knew Palins not to talk.

And Barack Obama is not president yet and has no legal authority to tell me to do a damn thing.

And even if he was president he wouldn't have legal authority to tell me what to say or think.

23. What medical records?
I still don't believe it. They did manage to quell the rumor though, by throwing her daughter under the bus.

I want STILL want to hear her and her doctor explain why and how she managed an 8 hour plane ride (and speech, and 45 minute car ride) AFTER her water broke.

Sound of pins dropping.
