I think something's up with KO at MSNBC and Rachel may suffer
I think after last weeks antics someone in power has yanked KO's leash. He seemed so full of himself last week that I thought, he's starting to believe his own press! I especially didn't like how he belittld his colleagus and I'm a HUGE fan! I've been following Keith since the late 70's early 80's when he was the sports guy for KNX news radio in Los Angeles. I remember when he announced he was leaving for ESPN, I knew my afternoon sports news would never be the same!

I'm concerned Rachel may suffer blowback just as she's starting her new show as it's known KO is her huge backer!

1. Ratings Are King
Last week M$NBC drew higher ratings than Faux and Countdown is the hottest property for the company...it's making the company money...and that's all that matters.

Keith will be the first to admit he's arrogant and opinionated...so what. For many of us, that's his charm and love when he bores Tweety a fifteenth assole or slaps Joey the Intern Killer around. It's what a communications professor I once had termed "compelling TV"...that people like to watch the friction and the ratings prove it.

Blowback? I'll bet KO got a call from Phil Griffin, his boss, and said "keep it up".

8. I agree, used to write about TV. KO has become star of MSNBC, and Rachel will become the next one...
Though for entirely different reasons, LOL.:D

Keith is not afraid to say what he thinks, in response to the latest egregious acts by our government, which are perfectly obvious to the rest of us, but it is so unusual and so refreshing to find someone in the MSM who finally, at least most of the time, speaks for us... :-)

And, of course, the Freepers absolutely have to tune in, so they'll know what stupidity or illegality they have committed, so they'll know what to defend themselves against on their next show... :eyes:

As for Rachel, she is intelligent, well-informed, and explains the most complicated issues in such a clear and cogent manner that the rest of us get it, just as she does... :applause:

12. Execellent Point
In radio we used to call it the "Dirty Old Man" effect...the talent is like the old streaker...people go past, he opens his coat and exposes himself

either you're turned on or offended...either way, you looked....

Cheers...

5. After the HELL we have gone through this past 8 years
with the unbridled support of MSNBC's Tweety, Scaboro, Tucker, Buchanan, Savage for awhile, the firing of Donahue, and more, I am damn glad to see KO kick their intrepid whiny asses. KO has the luxury of showing his disdain on air, while we only get to vent our point of view on the internets.

I want to see KO continue, in unison with Rachel, the hammering away at the rethugs, and if he hurts their itty bitty feelings along the way, then they need pucker up or get out of the biz. I get my revenge with the neotards vicariously through KO, and I need my fix regulary after the Dubya years.

It's about gawddamn time we get away from this conservative agenda in the MSM.

Rachel will do fine imho.

7. I love Rachael but I also love Keith...after all I doubt very much
that Rachael would have her own program if it was not for Keith..It seems very funny that some will kick Keith aside when he was the first to speak out...

9. Definitely agree that he was an enormous part of her getting a show.
Keith lost me during the primaries. But credit where credit is due...

13. I love both, but am very thankful to KO for being the one who made it possible for Rachel
to get a show after his own due to his ratings.

10. I don't know about the effect on Maddow,
but I've found myself just a bit turned off by KO lately. Some of his questions to guests were so big and bloated and convoluted, they were impossible to answer - in fact, they really were just KO voicing his beliefs. I would hate to see him puff up and fly away, but, for as devoted a watcher as I've been of "Countdown," he's begun to lose me.

Rachel will be great.

11. I love Keith, but...
No really, I do. There's no major big "but" here...

I noticed this in July, however:

- When I watch Countdown with Keith, I get angry, and viscerally pissed. I get unhappy. It's hard to watch.

- When I watched Countdown with Rachel, I was angry, but in a more positive way. I looked forward to watching.

I can't put my finger on it but it's the same reason I have been a Maddow devotee since Day 1. I listened to her on Air America, she is the only person I could handle on AAR, and the only media I could take at all post-2004. Rachel gets me fired up but in a positive way.

I love Keith, but I think Rachel's way of presenting news will resonate in a more positive, less-bitter, more productive way with the viewing audience.

Totally unscientific of course. :)
