Poll question: If Palin drops out, which GOPher will be chosen to replace her? |
|
Edited on Mon Sep-01-08 03:25 PM by ColbertWatcher
Palin may have served as the pick so bad, anyone else would be better.
If that's true, who will be trotted out as the replacement "soul mate"?

19. Not only that, but he lacks the pride to turn down second choice |
|
while I think Romney and Pawlenty just might be miffed enough at being chosen second to that fluff Palin that they'd decline.

Republicans may as well ride this one out.

9. I agree - the rabid base will have near %100 turnout |
|
for their gun totin', anti-choice, gay hatin', spunky babe.
That fact alone will keep her in - that and the reality that Repugs NEVER admit they are wrong.
But they didn't figure on her being blatantly so wacko that they would lose traditional, usuallyt older Republicans with 3 digit IQs who are in favor of a limited government, but are progressive on social issues.
My sister is one of those. She LOVED Romney, but was OK with McCain -- until Sarah. She is foaming with anger, saying that McCain has disrespected the office of the Presidency and she no longer has any respect for him AND she cannot vote for someone whom she does not respect. There are loads of people like my sister, who actually understand what a horrible thing he has done with this pick.

11. I agree, the GOP are not known for owning up to their mistakes. |
|
But, I figured a poll wouldn't hurt the bigger conversation.

4. Which of them would want it now? |
|
Accepting the job at this point would be basically admitting they are sloppy seconds after the spectacularly unqualified Miss Mooseburger. If it were me, I'd feel insulted at being considered second-best after her.

I had heard something about Larry Craig before he was busted.
It would be a red herring as far as I'm concerned, but your point is well taken.

I still go back long enough to remember Quayle. I'll give Sarah the nod over him. but maybe just for the same reasons McCain picked her -- a guilty pleasure in looking at her.

18. So let's say Palin drops out, |
|
either voluntarily because she decides she's in over her head and doesn't want to deal with the shitstorm, or because the campaign pushes her out because they realize she's a liability.
And then McAncient (or his handlers) picks somebody else, probably one of the people who were being publicly discussed, like Mittens or Pawlenty or Lieberman. How do they sell him? Because inevitably the question will come up, "If this guy is really so great, why didn't you choose him in the first place?" McAncient's judgment is still in question. Say it's Mittens, who is awful, but at least he has a fair amount of experience in government. So, Senator McCain, hy didn't you choose the guy who'd been the governor of a BIG state, has a couple of advanced degrees and had been a successful businessman? Or why not Tim Pawlenty, who is a governor of a middle-sized state and had also been a practicing attorney and a state legislator? And if these guys weren't good enough to be VP before, why are they now?
And if Palin doesn't drop out, McCain looks like a crazy fool not only for choosing her in the first place but for keeping her even after all these questions about her fitness for the job came up.
Either way, McCain has shot himself in the foot. Blew it clean off, maybe.

20. If she drops out (which she never will)... |
|
... the race is over.
You won't find a politician willing to touch the VP spot with a 50ft pole. The only person willing to do it might be Liberman and that's because he knows his political career is over after November anyway.
