An armed mother-of-the bride and the whole country watching.
Now THAT's what I call a shotgun wedding!

I lay the blame at the feet of the stupid ass irresponsible adults in their lives who are delusional enough to think "wait til your married" constitutes sex education. They probably thought if they did it standing up or took a shower right after they were safe.

I don't think so. If they do, it's because they weren't paying attention in the class.
Why are you attacking me? Do you think abstinence-until-marriage only is good sex ed?

It seems to me the real problem is that teens are getting pregnant no matter which system is used, so maybe it is not as much the system as other issues that we need to address (parents not watching their kids, etc and so on).

32. Teen pregnancy is actually much lower than it was in the 50s |
|
The general trend has been downward (with occasional blips), over the past few decades due to contraception and availability of abortion. Teenagers have sex, and have been since the beginning of humankind. The argumentation you are using sounds similar to the abstinence-only camp. "Contraception fails so there's no point in teaching about it." If you believe in abstinence-only, then say so.

Too much fugging ignorance is passing for an education. Every single one of my mother's six daughters had sex before marriage and not one of us got pregnant. Mom was so smart that she told us what would create bad memories early - and told us to wait until we left home.

but less evil than abortion, which is more evil than premarital sex?
I'd love to ask Palin and all the fundies finally capitulating that kids are free agents who 'will do what they want,' would you rather they use birth control, or is teenage, out-of-wedlock pregnancy actually preferable?

then she has to take care of it. Just like the choice he made, he allowed her to have something and he is responsible for it. If she allows it to be born and doesn't give it up she is responsible for it.

how, for a girl, sex at that age isn't that really wonderful thing it becomes as you get familiar and comfortable with your body as you grow up. There's not a whole lot of technique when you're sixteen, seventeen years of age. For the boy, it's wonderful just to be getting laid. For a girl, it's a bit more complicated than that.
Now, the kid has the pregnancy, childbirth, and taking care of an infant to look forward to. It's like she never really had a chance. I hope she gets the chance. It's so unfair for a child to be trapped by the rigid and dangerous beliefs of the parents. What if the boy were HIV-positive?
It's just a heartbreaking situation all around, and all those people who think abstinence is such a peach idea should be ashamed of themselves.

What would possibly drive Palin to say her daughter is planning to marry if she was already married? And how on Earth does Levi's photo show he is already married. By the way the girl holding baby Trig is not Bristol.

There was a thread on DU yesterday that discussed it too. http://andrewsullivan.theatlantic.com/the_daily_dish/2008/09/bristol-is-preg.htmlBristol Is Pregnant 01 Sep 2008 12:29 pm So that explains the wedding ring

Edited on Mon Sep-01-08 08:04 PM by OmmmSweetOmmm
still doesn't look good if she had a high school teenage daughter pregnant and married to another teenager. That might be something that she intended to hide also. As to saying that they will be married...she would have egg on her face that she never told anyone they were married in the first place.
