The police did the same thing in NY in '04 as they are now doing in Mpls. Why the surprise?

Were you expecting CHANGE? Nobody addressed what happened in NY. They got away with taking away citizen's rights so why wouldn't they continue to do the same thing?

Even Bill Maher's show this week featured Matt Taibi's filming of free speech zones at the DNC. If the DNC will allow free speech zones, then we are fucked IMHO (although it may not be up to the DNC but other laws and local authorities.)

Fast forward to November 2008 when they repeat the same election theft and vote suppression tactics that have been successfully used for the past eight years...and they will. Who will be surprised?

I won't. Unfortunately, I'd be more surprised if we won and that's a shame because we have two of the best candidates I have seen in a long time.

1. They did it in Philly in '00
Police Commish Timmoney, who confessed he hated protesters with a violent passion, has orchestrated some of the most vile crackdowns on peaceful protesters in recent history.

They even named the "Miami model" after his fascist method of abusing and illegally detaining peaceful protesters.

2. I have vague memories of '68. Not surprised, unfortunately.
The biggest difference was '68 was fairly well televised.

These days it's almost impossible (almost, I said) to get the info out there. Now we have some options to TV and can try to get the info out there.

I'll be pleasantly surprised if we win in Nov. But, I will be surprised; that's the sad part.

6. and Miami don't forget -- it's surprising to people who haven't had a reason to
pay attention to "protest culture" before. the ranks of "protest savvy" folk are increasing which is a comment on where we stand in history.

7. This is worse
They have gone to people's homes and arrested people. Pre-emptive.
