I cannot believe that Palin has a high approval rating in Alaska
When McCain trotted out his trophy running mate, the repugs were touting her 90% approval rating in Alaska.

I'm calling BS on this. There is no way that a woman as crooked as she is, who has lied about multiple things, who is a member of a secessionist group, can have such a high rating.

2. Apparently Alaskans don't expect good governing. They love Ted Stevens.
Or at least they DID, until he embarrassed them. He brought home the pork, and that's all they care about.

3. Yeah, well, there was once a president with a 90% approval rating too.
She hasn't been in office long enough for people to see her downside - although that is rapidly changing now.

4. Believe it.
She is good at getting people to believe she's a populist, despite her conservative views.

5. From other posts, I gather that it is true.
I further gather that the reasons for her high approval rating are (a) she is only moderately corrupt compared with the extremely corrupt Republicans that preceded her, making her look good by comparison, and (b) most residents of Alaska are far-out right-wingers, with rampant fundamentalism.

Alaska is not at all like the rest of the country. As Cokie would say, it's "foreign and exotic".

I also hear she's down to 65% now due to troopergate and other scandals and unsuitable behavior by Palin.

6. It's all about the money.
My understanding is that since she took office, oil and gas revenues have skyrocketed. Insteadof using the money in the state funds to mprove education, etc, she has been sending out $2,000 and $3,000 checks to all the citizens. I don't know the details. Who wouldn't be happy if some short term cash, especially if they don't have kids to raise in the AK public school system.

10. You are SO right, it's about the oil revenues,
however, I firmly believe that more s*** will come out about this woman as the days go by..........her own mother-in-law said that she isn't qualified to be VP!

11. You got it! it is about oil revenue
Palin took office at the right time, Oil revenue skyrocketing means larger payouts for each Alaskan. I believe her rating has dropped to 67% even with the huge payouts.

7. It's another lie
I think after Troopergate broke her approval rating was more like 67%, still high but sinking fast. I'll try to find a source for this info but I recall reading about this recently.

8. Actually, it's true, it has to do with the price of oil
because Alaskans get a share of the oil money (the state is awash in money, and it is corrupt). This Fall, each Alaskan will r eceive approximately $3,300 EACH, in oil revenues. That is why they like her , and ONLY because of that..........actually, Palin has lots of enemies in AK

13. She's secured an extra $1200/resident (kids, too) this year.
On top of the usual Permanent Fund monies, which are between $2000 and $2100 this year (per resident, kids included). The extra $1200 is to help offset the high energy costs.

Of course she's popular. Money talks.
