Worst President Ever
This is more than just political rhetoric. Besides the economic wreck, the international shame, and the degradation of our Constitution that his tenure has brought, this president has presided over and enabled the greatest fall in moral and ethical standards we have witnessed in this short a time.

America’s progress has always been one of slowly moving towards making things better for more and more of its citizens. Often we endure slight retrenchments from noble progress, but under bush we have not been one step forward and two steps back, but no steps forward and a complete full-scale rout and retreat from our better selves.

Two things serve as symbols of this national abrogation of our responsibilities. First is the acceptance of the republican’s nominee for vice president as a serious and plausible candidate for this office. Across the nation, journalists and pundits discuss her “merits”. At almost no level is honesty considered. Almost no one speaks nationally of the craven pandering by mccain and the low esteem for public intelligence evident in his choice. Worst, I suppose, is how justified that esteem seems to be.

More serious than this debacle is the militarization of Minnesota. Why aren’t our journalists up in arms about a police state being established inside our borders. Again, the sad part is that even when the public hears the news, it shrugs and goes shopping. Why won’t our elected officials, our Democratic members of the state and national legislature, become involved. Our laws are being broken by our law enforcement agencies. Yet we have fallen so low, that these affronts to everything American are accepted.

This president and his cronies have set the example for the country. We are truly a lesser nation now than we were eight years ago. The question has become: Have we allowed ourselves to be led into this awful state by soulless and corrupt people or are those people, bush and his administration and the neocon cabal that put them there, actually true representatives of our actual nature.

We will find out in November.

2. Funny thing is, I think that while the St. Paul/Minneapolis/Minnesota cops
are on the streets, the orders are being given by the Secret Service or another federal agency.

(Not to take away from any criticism of the police, who are applying punishment before the individuals have been convicted.)

4. Indeed.
The part that makes me want to make sure my passport is in order is that if Blackwater were brought in and began carrying people off, the media wouldn't say anything and the general public would just wonder what the "criminals" did the get themselves disappeared.

5. How does the Secret Service
get off arresting American citizens in their homes just because they don't like republicans? Where are we heading?

8. If we'd listened to Carter,
we wouldn't be in the oil mess we're in now. But Carter gave the American public too much credit and appealed to our better nature, he thought we'd be willing to pull together even if it meant some sacrifice. A tough line to sell when you're running against Reagan's "greed is good, you're wants are all the matters" appeal to people's baser instincts.

13. well, golly . . . it seems that not everyone agrees with your assessment . . .
the following appeared in my local rag, The Journal News (Westchester, Putnman, and Rockland Counties, NY), this morning . . .

U.S. needs another president like Bush

President George W. Bush has been the best president of the United States since President Reagan and President Truman. He has been steadfast, determined, courageous and undeterred in spite of the pathetic Democrats in Congress.

Going to war in Iraq was the right decision. The United States was attacked two times, and overseas over and over again. President Bush had no choice but to respond in kind. To do otherwise would have been cowardice, disastrous, and an invitation to further attacks here and abroad.

No one is going to attack the United States without paying a price. Those who had the illusion that the United States was a paper tiger had to be shown otherwise.

The United States is somewhat safer now. For the last eight years, no one attacked the United States. We should be thankful to every man and woman in the armed services that every day they place their lives on the line to keep the United States safe.

We need another president to follow in the footsteps of President George W. Bush.

Anthony Briganti
Harrison

14. My sympathies for living there.
I understand because I live in Texas. If the people in Westchester, Putnam, and Rockland, really like him, maybe they can convince him to come live there next year. Otherwise the jerk will be moving within 100 mile of my house. There goes the neighborhood.
