7. It's normal during a busy hurricane season
2004 and 2005 were similar to this. Most seasons are not like this

It was booking straight west to FL, but it's still too far out to really track it accurately.

Gustav Tuesday as a Cat 4; Hanna Friday as a Cat 3; Ike Tuesday the 9th

THREE MAJOR HITS ON THE U.S. BETWEEN THE 1ST AND THE 10TH OF SEPTEMBER....

snip-->

Speaking of Hanna, I still think Hanna becomes a Category 3 storm and heads across South Florida on Thursday and hits the Gulf coast on Friday somewhere in the Florida Panhandle. The worst case scenario, New Orleans escapes Gustav, but gets hit from Hanna coming in from the Southeast. It is also possible that South Florida takes a double hit by Hanna first and a few days later Ike. The Euro model takes Ike into South Florida by the 9th and a major hurricane. My concern is, that Ike becomes the East Coast storm that we all have been fearing would happen. I say that becomes the timing of the trough coming into the East could pick up Ike and bring it up the coast. We have plenty of time to look at that. In the mean time, we have Gustav on Tuesday and Hanna later in the week...

11. Where did you get that information?
Hanna is supposed to hit anywhere from the SE coast of Florida to the Outer Banks of NC. Ike is really too far out to tell. His 5 day cone only takes him to the Bahamas. The third storm out there has not been named a Tropical Depression yet (though she is expected to become Josephine tomorrow).

Now, if you want to say there are 3 POSSIBLE land falling hurricanes moving toward the US, that would be accurate.

15. That's not the Gulf though
And Ike hasn't become a hurricane, yet. It is forecast by a couple of reliable models to become a major hurricane, but at one point, Hanna was forecast to not become a hurricane until tomorrow sometime.

From the NHC 11 PM discussion on Ike:

THE INTENSITY MODELS GENERALLY
AGREE ON A CLIMATOLOGICAL STRENGTHENING RATE WITH TIME...AND SUGGEST
THAT IKE WILL BECOME A HURRICANE IN 24 TO 36 HOURS. THERE IS
HOWEVER A LITTLE DIVERGENCE IN WHAT THE MODELS ARE INDICATING
BEYOND 48 HOURS. BOTH THE GFDL AND THE HWRF INTENSIFY IKE INTO A
POWERFUL HURRICANE WHILE THE SHIPS AND LGEM INDICATE WEAKENING
DUE TO INCREASING NORTHEASTERLY SHEAR. THE OFFICIAL INTENSITY
FORECAST IS A COMPROMISE OF THE TWO SOLUTIONS AND IS VERY CLOSE TO
THE ICON INTENSITY CONSENSUS.

I understand what you are saying, but all that is still what is POSSIBLE, not what IS. And the link you posted was written Saturday morning. A LOT has changed since then. The likelihood of Hanna crossing Florida and entering the Gulf isn't even being entertained anymore. It is likely heading for SC.

17. It depends if the jet stream lifts enough to let Ike head northeast or west... it depends.
Edited on Mon Sep-01-08 10:38 PM by Breeze54
They're watching it but the experts at that link are saying the Euro model shows Ike as being major.

I didn't say it was written in stone and in fact I used the word "possible" twice.

20. You did
I am completely one edge and I am sorry if it seemed like I was chastising you. That wasn't the case. It depends is the mantra of people who do hurricane forecasting and sometimes, it makes people crazy.

Yes, Ike will probably become a major storm. I hope it goes out to sea because I can't wish that it goes anywhere in the Gulf, Hanna will probably mess up parts of the Carolinas, but I sure don't want it to come here as a major, either.

I am going to bed. I wasn't trying to fight with you and I apologize if it seemed like that.

16. Good luck!
We are still watching it in SE Florida, but that seems to be kind of far-fetched at this point. Only the UKMET seems to think it will come here. Maybe we will all get lucky and some of the stupider models will pan out for once, thereby sending Hanna out to sea and out of all of our hair!

At least it's not a Cat 5!! Hang in there!

I hope Ike doesn't hit the east coast.... I mean north east.

Or anywhere for that matter but we shall see in a few days.
