Let's hope for a huge helping of self aggrandizement (on the part of the media).

"The Horse Race" is a story that is sooooooo yesterday.

If a media person or organization wants to make some serious bones - and what media person or media organization doesn't?? - they need to come up with a new hook. And Sarah Palin and the shit that is welling up around her is full of hooks. Forgetting the specifics of any one story, her totality is such that the media will either go along to get along or go for the big prize. The big prize, of course, is the story that will bring her down.

Again, forget what that story is. Just consider the idea. A monumentally insubstantial veep candidate that has clearly not been well vetted is about to embark on the oddest odyssey that could see her take the big chair in the Oval Office. If just one of the rumors turns out to be true - or if the totality of the rumors become the story, facts be damned - a dogged reporter or an intrepid news organization could bring her down.

And become famous doing it.

For once, I'd love to see the media be real selfish - and do it for the personal glory if that's gets us to the prize.
