McCain's Big Gamble Becoming More Uncertain

ST. PAUL., Minn. -- Only four days ago, the nation's voters were asked to accept John McCain's assurances that Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, known to only a tiny portion of the public and barely to McCain himself, was fully suited to be vice president.

But now the magnitude of McCain's gamble is becoming clear.

For every piece of the portrait of Palin that the McCain campaign sketches, a far more complicated picture is drawn.

You're 72, you won't run again in 4 years when you lose this year...but Sarah's young and she energizes the religious right...and as guv of Alaska/anwr/natural gas, her thinking pleases Cheney and the rest...and now she's a name on the national stage

Politicians have survived worse than Palin is getting right now


but somehow McCain...I don't think you will...and I'm starting to truly believe you were never meant to
