Sarah Palin: Director of “Ted Stevens Excellence in Public Service, Inc."
Edited on Tue Sep-02-08 04:24 AM by SoCalDem

The Washington Post’s Matthew Mosk reports that Sarah Palin “began building clout in her state’s political circles in part by serving as a director of an independent political group organized by the now embattled Alaska Sen. Ted Stevens“:

Palin’s name is listed on 2003 incorporation papers of the “Ted Stevens Excellence in Public Service, Inc.,” a 527 group that could raise unlimited funds from corporate donors. The group was designed to serve as a political boot camp for Republican women in the state. She served as one of three directors until June 2005, when her name was replaced on state filings.

Last October on Fox News Sunday, John McCain said, “The 527s need to be eliminated.”

Stevens is hardly a model of “excellence in public service.” He was indicted in July “on seven felony counts of failing to disclose gifts that he received from an oil services company,” VECO. That same oil company has ties to Palin, contributing 10 percent of her total campaign fund when she ran for lieutenant governor in 2002.

After Stevens was indicted, Palin vocally defended him. In turn, Stevens endorsed Palin as McCain’s vice presidential pick last week, stating that he has worked with her “for over a decade.”

2. Excellent find! But, I know how she'll weasle her way out of this one ...
... She'll say she no longer supports him due to his, blah, blah, blah with VECO.

But, it seems Governor Palin received some donations from VECO executives when she ran for lt. gov: http://dwb.adn.com/news/politics/fbi/story/8863305p-8765776c.html

6. Palin not ready to call for (Stevens') resignation (29 July 08)
By WESLEY LOY | wloy@adn.com

JUNEAU - Gov. Sarah Palin today said indicted U.S. Sen. Ted Stevens "has dedicated his life to the betterment of the state" and said she couldn't say yet whether he should resign ...

Asked whether Stevens should quit the Senate, Palin said she hadn't had a chance to fully read the 28-page indictment and said it "would be premature at this point" to call for Stevens to resign, as she did in the case of state Sen. John Cowdery, R-Anchorage, after he was recently indicted on federal charges including bribery ...

8. Scrubbed: Palin Ad Featuring Ted Stevens Disappears (29 Aug 08)
Talking Points Memo | August 29, 2008 04:07 PM

That was quick. This morning, an ad from Sarah Palin's 2006 gubernatorial campaign featuring an endorsement from scandal-plagued Alaska Senator Ted Stevens was available on Palin's campaign Web site.

...but now the Stevens ad has already been scrubbed. The link is no longer on her campaign site.

Luckily, the ad featuring Stevens and Palin is still available for your viewing pleasure! ...

9. Palin And Stevens (CBS)
By Steve Benen
Sep 1, 2008

On Friday, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) told CNN, "Gov. Palin took on Ted Stevens. If she can take him on, she can take on the Russians. Heh." He liked the line so much, Graham repeated it on ABC News yesterday, saying, "If you can take on Ted Stevens and that crowd in Alaska, you can handle the Russians."

On its face, it's an unusually inane thing to say. Unless Ted Stevens is a nuclear power with autocratic tendencies, the analogy is rather a childish one for a United States senator to make on national television.

But more to the point, Graham's just wrong. Palin didn't "take on" the allegedly corrupt Alaskan senator; she allied herself with him throughout her brief political career ...

The McCain campaign said Palin opposed the infamous "bridge to nowhere." That's false. The campaign said Palin supported the Bush "surge" policy. That's false. The campaign said Palin is the "commander in chief" of the Alaska National Guard. That's misleading. The campaign said Palin is qualified on foreign policy because she lives in a state near Russia. That's dumb ...

10. As regards "living in a State near Russia", there's more to it,
since the Party (AIP) she was apparently a member of and may still be working for as an "infiltrator" in the GOP has apparently established political relationships (at least vía Pravda, and what else?) in Russia, in support of some Alaskans' secessionist desire for independent oil-state status. (ref: Kos).

So yes, to say that Palin is qualified on foreign policy because she lives in a state near Russia was really dumb.

14. Don't forget they claimed Bush's experience cause of Mexico...
so for those who couldn't find either the state of Alaska or Texas on a US map, it might actually sound good.
