Sarah Palin regarding the Pledge of Allegiance

Don't know much about history

Sarah Palin regarding the Pledge of Allegiance, which was written in 1892, and why it should include the phrase "under God," which was added in 1955:

"If it was good enough for the founding fathers, it's good enough for me."

6. That is actually a big plus in an anti-intellectual society
Lots of pig-ignorant and proud folks will be impressed and sympathetic.

7. Sadly all too true
Nixon tried to nominate a third rate Florida judge to the Supreme Court,
and when it was pointed out that he was mediocre at best, a Republican
senator from Nebraska shot back that there were a lot of mediocre people
in this country, and maybe they deserved some representation on the Supreme
Court, too. The man in question, G. Harrold Carswell, was later arrested
and convicted of assault or something similar after making advances to
an undercover cop (Larry Craig had a role model!).

Of course, the difference is that Carswell faced a much more critical
Senate and media than he would have now. Trash that he was, he would have
stood a far better chance of being confirmed today than back in Nixon's
day.
