I thought I came prepared to dinner with the in-laws...
The conversation was eventually gong to turn to politics and that was fine; I was ready to defend Obama against the Palin "having the same/more experience" meme. I knew his accomplishments. I was going through them in my head.

What caught me TOTALLY off guard when my Faux News addled Mother-in-law proceeded to tell me in all naked honesty (mouth agape) that she just "couldn't see how Biden was any match for her" considering that "Palin has so much more experience than him!"

:wtf:

Then it got better!!! "He (Biden) scares me... He'll fly off the handle at any moment and he's angry all the time. That's not someone who we want in the White House!"

I fucking kid you not!!!

3. Are they Rush-addled?
That's how my relatives are -- constantly spewing this crazy stuff at odds with reality. I blame Limbah!

6. It does sound like ditto head behavior. ANd the sad thing is
They will say whatever nonsense he says, and there isn't any way to fight arguments offered by a brain dead, hyena-brained Oxycontin abuser.

Edited on Tue Sep-02-08 09:58 AM by PerpetuallyDazed
she's really closed off from the rest of the world. (Hubby calls her seclusive)

Faux is like her only window to reality!

Syncophants who repeat whatever nonsense is being spewed.

Sorry if I wasn't clearer.

4. It's incredible how otherwise intelligent people can lose their minds
when afflicted with the mental disease of "republicism".

My mom and aunt in East Texas, both with masters degrees, are incapable of reason wrt politricks.

8. She needs an intervention.
Take her someplace quiet, with no TV, only an internet connection.
Feed her news that she has to read. No opinion, no commentary, no bullshit.
It may take a month or more but her mind will return to normal.

15. I realize that's what she needs...
so I try to e-mail her "liberal minded things" constantly. Don't know if it helps, but I guess one needs a lot of patience.

but once they repeat Rush's inanities, they can't go beyond that. They can't defend their positions any further.

11. Yes, and if you question them further, they get mad
because they are not thinking, just spouting what they heard someone else say.

18. When she started in on the "terrorist schools" in the U.S., I about lost my cool
Edited on Tue Sep-02-08 10:13 AM by PerpetuallyDazed
I was like "What the hell?" and eventually I got out of her that she was meaning "Islamic schools."

So I press further: Aren't there Catholic schools, too? Are THEY training terrorists? Her: No, no, I'm not talking about those, I'm talking about those other peoples' schools.

And she goes on: They could be totally legit, but you don't know! They could be training terrorists! Just because you can't see it doesn't mean it's not there!

Me: Isn't that the kind of thinking that got us into Iraq?

After that she just shook her head and went quiet.

22. Faux news talking point..
is that she has more "chief executive" experience than mccain, biden or obama.

We need to fight with the facts.

1. She's been mayor for less than 2 years in the most remote & least diverse state. Alaska does not look or run like America.
2. Before that she was mayor of a very small town where she tried to ban books at the library because they had dirty words in them.
3. Her BA in journalism doesn't boost her resume to be President.

Let's get more together so we have the ammo!

That was the one I saw on Faux news. They were 'concerned' that he was not healthy enough to serve a full term.
