Poll question: A poll question that asks for critical thining before answering: Will Palin survive the week?
Some are now calling this nomination a head fake.

What do you think?

1. Future Poll Topic

Is "Rovian Head Fake" the most ridiculous, misguided DU catchphrase ever, particularly as regards this situation? :eyes: :eyes:

6. Were this the dreaded RovianHeadFake™, it would be a complete disaster
There have been **many** repubican luminaries out there praising and defending her in very strong terms. If they yank the tablecloth off the table and hope for the china to stay in place, they're gunna fail. And their party will splinter in a very big way. It would be the end of any influence that puff-body maggot, Rove, might still have.

I think this is a fuckup and its all McCain's.

With that in mind, I can see her leaving the campaign as easily as I cans ee her staying.

If the RNC decides to drop her from the ticket, so be it, they'll turn right around and start talking up the next VP pick. Palin and her strange family will disappear from the national media spotlight within days, and more than likely, the major GOP backers will breath a collective sigh of relief. The Palin-energized fundies will be momentarily disheartened, but they'll be quick to rationalize it as much as they've ever needed to rationalize anything else they believe. Chances are, the next nominee will prop at least some of their core voting issues anyway, and they'll sympathize with her need to "focus on her family" -- easy enough. Meanwhile, those who've already come around to backing McCain as a result of this VP pick will stick with him, thinking it shows support for their cause.

I suspected Palin would self-destruct eventually, a weak and unsupported gambit piece played mainly to weaken Democrats if our candidates attacked her openly. However, the speed at which her image is coming apart suggests something more is afoot. The RNC, I think, would want to have this sorted out by the end of the convention. My hunch is they will stabilize with someone relatively boring and thoroughly vetted, and the Palin fiasco will be completely forgotten by October.

She was expendable from the beginning, and is about to be spent.

3. Not a head fake, but drilling by the media will find even more about this quack.

5. probably-- for political reasons if no other....
If McSame dismisses her too soon he'll look even stupider. She has to appear to have been a credible VP pick who was undermined by circumstances "no one could have foreseen." If McSame picks her, then dumps her after only a couple of weeks he'll look even flakier than he already appears.

10. I think that if they replace her
it makes them look bad in the minds of the undecideds and the less-staunch republicans.

I also really don't see the point of this "head fake" anyway. It still winds up decimating a republican officeholder, and even swapping VP noms a week before the debate isn't going to sway Biden. I'm sure he'll be up to speed on whomever they throw at him.

11. I'm torn...
I'm not sure if the republicans would admit being wrong...
I also think that it would look TERRIBLE if she left or was kicked to the curb... would only put emphasis on McCain's inability to make a good decision.
However, if might just be political suicide for her to stay on...

Really unsure...

13. If she goes, it'll be during the Friday afternoon news dump
No way are they going to drop that bombshell during the convention, and also fuel water-cooler gossip during the work week. But if she does go, the earlier the better for them.

No, I'm calling for her to be gone at 3 PM Friday afternoon. If she survives until Saturday morning, she'll be on the ticket in November no matter what.

14. The GOP base loves her..would McCain really make her Joan of Arc???
Palin isn't going nowhere--the base would explode. McCain has got his private parts in a vice of his own making....
