Prominent Conservative Writer(David Frum)... Palin "Makes Barack Obama Look Like George C. Marshall"
David Frum: Palin "Makes Barack Obama Look Like George C. Marshall"
By Greg Sargent - September 2, 2008, 11:51AM
A prominent Republican writer says it's legit to bring up McCain's age -- and makes the interesting argument that the choice of Sarah Palin as Veep candidate should make us put McCain's age front and center as an issue.

Check out this absolutely brutal piece on Palin by former Bush speechwriter and American Enterprise Institute resident fellow David Frum that was posted on AEI's site today:

Ms. Palin's experience in government makes Barack Obama look like George C. Marshall. She served two terms on the city council of Wasilla, Alaska, population 9,000. She served two terms as mayor. In November, 2006, she was elected governor of the state, a job she has held for a little more than 18 months. She has zero foreign policy experience, and no record on national security issues.
All this would matter less, but for this fact: The day that John McCain announced his selection of Sarah Palin was his birthday. His 72nd birthday. Seventy-two is not as old as it used to be, but Mr. McCain had a bout with melanoma seven years ago, and his experience in prison camp has uncertain implications for his future health.

If anything were to happen to a President McCain, the destiny of the free world would be placed in the hands of a woman who until recently was a small-town mayor.

Obviously, the fact that a prominent conservative writer is giving voice to this argument should make it a bit tougher for Republicans to yell about the "age card" when Dems point out that the choice of Palin puts McCain's age on the table.

1. Actually, while she was mayor the population was below or at 6k, not 9k.
not to quibble with the details, but let's be totally honest about how unqualified she is.

3. Very high praise to liken Obama to Marshall
Too bad 95% of the American voting public have no idea who George Marshall was. As designer and implementer of the Marshall Plan, which rebuilt war ravaged Europe following WW II, he is revered by Europeans.

From Wikipedia:

George Catlett Marshall, Jr. (December 31, 1880 – October 16, 1959)
An American military leader, Secretary of State, and the third Secretary of Defense.

Once noted as the "organizer of victory" by Winston Churchill for his leadership of the Allied victory in World War II,<1> Marshall supervised the U.S. Army during the war and was the chief military adviser to President Franklin D. Roosevelt.
As Secretary of State he gave his formulated and gave his name to the Marshall Plan, for which he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1953.

4. neo-cons like Frum sure don't like the Dominionist Palin types, do they?
Actually, its hilarious that the two current wacko wings of the Republican party, the neo-cons and the fundamentalists, are about to go tooth and nail against each other. Pass around the popcorn, its about to get even better this week.

6. Going way back, the manuevers of the R Party have been brilliant. when you think about it.

Think about all their batallions = evangelical, PNAC, AIPAC, bankers, barons, corporations, military, pearl and tie country club loyals, Norquist radicals, and all their friends in Israel and Saudi Arabia, CIA and all their Mafias, Pentagon, dealers-operatives in illicit trades of nuclear, arms, drugs, lobbyists, off-shore holders and launderers, privitization workers, labor busters

They have all worked so carefully and seamlessly - each getting a part of the rewards.

Now, there is a break.

I have always thought of Frum as someone mainly from the AIPAC group - very visible - always making the case. Now - frictions with the Christian evangelicals?

Trouble in the depths of the formerly tight batallions.

They could have never got where they are if they had not operated in amazing sync.

Wow, this is great to watch.

Dems go their own ways over candidates, but I don't think it's to the extent of what we might see here. NO ONE HAS EVER TOLD DEMS THAT THEY HAD TO FORM A SEAMLESS COALITION OF BATALLIONS OR DID DEMS HAVE TO DO CERTAIN THINGS LIKE STEAL VOTES TO ENSURE THEY GOT IN THE WH AGAIN AND STAY THERE. (It can't happen again - this country cannot survive if they do.)

The evangelicals haven't received all that was promised them. They did get their people into the Department of Justice - which is the perfect place for the Constitutional revisions that they needed for THEIR UNIQUE AGENDA to force their beliefs on the rest of us. Someone blew that. They never reversed Roe vs Wade and with only a coupld of months left - they can REJOICE - ABSOLUTELY REJOICE at their future.
