What are your absolute minimum expectations for the Dems when Obama takes office? |
|
What do you consider non-negotiable? For me, it's:
* Full restoration of habeas corpus * Full, unqualified restoration of all civil liberties guaranteed in the bill of rights * Full reaffirmation of the Geneva accords * Categorical renunciation of torture, and cessation of extraordinary rendition * Closure of Guantanamo, and all secret prisons * An end to the Iraq War, full troop pull-out, and closure of all bases in Iraq
I fully expect the democrats to accomplish the first four of these within the first 100 days, and the last two before the next mid-term election. If it doesn't happen I will conclude that the democrats have gone over to the dark side, and I will cease to support the party (although I might vote for the occasional democrat who states his or her progressive views unequivocally, - someone like Kucinich).

8. A President who can pronounce "nuclear" correctly, speak in complete |

sentences, and doesn't make me ashamed to be an American when I consider our country's image in the rest of the world.
These are my minimum expectations. All in all, I'd like for Barack Obama to shoot for maximum expectations. He might fall short of the mark, but he'd still be a better President then than if he aimed for low expectations and hit.

9. Exposure of the truth regarding: the Iraq War, energy, Halliburton, KBR, etc. |

To uncover the truth, the real numbers and those responsible for the corruption of this administration.
Surely, they don't escape prosecution just because their administration is done?

11. People in this country are dying because they don't have the very basic necessities. |
|
Shelter, food, medicine. And BushCo and the other RWers couldn't care any less. That's the way they are.
I don't recall who said it ... I have heard the quote attributed to H Humphrey and to M Ghandi as well ...
but a nation is judged by how it treats is least fortunate . I'm looking for Obama to get us back
on the right track as I know he will.

13. That they won't make any of this any worse |
|
That is something the Clinton administration failed to live up to. During his years, deregulation accelerated, wealth concentration accelerated, access to reproductive health services declined.
If the Obama team stops the decline of this country into a totalitarian oligarchy, they will have done well.
That's how low the bar is right now.

on marijuana and last, but not least, prosecute buscho for crimes against humanity.
LOL I have a feeling that this list will end up being quite long, it might take him 8 yrs to do all the fixing that needs to be done.
