The future of DU
I really think that we're going to have a Democrat in the White House and greater Democratic party majority in Congress... This is our time.

What should DU focus be once the party takes the reigns?

How do we support our Democratic party leaders?

How do we insure that the people that we worked so hard to get into office work hard to correct the abuses of the last eight years?

What other questions should be asked?

Once the partying dies down, we'll see with even more clarity that we've got a lot of work ahead of us...

Time to get our hands dirty

1. Make clear that LIBERALISM is the future
This is the beginning of the end for the DLC, the blue dogs, and every other DINO in the Democratic party. It's time to start the great move to the left where the Democratic party belongs.

No more pandering to the conservatives. They have a party. It's time liberals had one as well.

9. UH...You may wanna slow that roll a bit...
and work on Democratic unity before you consign to hell wholesale parts of OUR OWN PARTY. It'll take all of the Big Tent to make this work.

Just sayin'.

3. The first step is stop the war. The second is massive media reform.
We need brutal changes. The FCC need to be turned around.

Only then can the people actually know what is going on.

4. As with all those who hold positions of power..
We stand fast and hold their feet to the fire.

A planet hangs in the balance and they will hear of it when they act against that Best of Interests. They must hear of it.

DU has more than enough brilliants light to shine everywhere.

5. I think we should start right now with a list of what needs to be fixed.
I don't mean just the GOP messes that has to be reverted, but all the sleeper cells the GOP have lined up.

I have a feeling our court system is filled with Federalist Society bots waiting for "the call".

We need to do the research, do some triage, split up into teams and get to work.

7. First and foremost.
We'll just have to make sure of it ourselves. From the bottom up.

And somehow, I don't have a lot of trust in my fellow "progressives" to really push for it.

A few will.

Most will look the other way.

:(

Thank you.... I do appreciate it.

...too many heathens under our Big Tent to deal with first, you see--the important stuff comes first. :sarcasm:

Thank you for understanding the sense of isolation I feel.

10. There is a very good article on exactly this topic in the current issue of "The American Prospect"
which I read in the bookstore the other night. Written by a founder of MoveOn.org and titled
Where Do We Move When America MovesOn?

Victory could pose an existential challenge for the grass-roots groups that arose in opposition to Bush. A MoveOn.org veteran examines the challenge and its opportunities.

http://www.prospect.org/cs/articles?article=where_do_we_move_when_america_moveson

It discusses future of MoveOn if we get a Dem in the WH, but certainly would apply to DU as well. Discusses a group similar to MoveOn in Australia called GetUp! and what they have been doing since *their* conservative regime got ousted.

.... and removing it from the grips of corporate money.

13. I hope that happens. Then I hope DU becomes less shrill.
DU was not shrill in the early days. I've been here since 5/2001, just like Will Pitt. Our problem back then, those problems that Will and I (and throw in any old names, dear DU readers) addressed, was to convince other DUers as to JUST HOW BAD FOUR YEARS OF BU$H COULD BE!. We got eight.

We ride 'em like rented mules. That's always been my point. As Dems, they have to at least pretend to listen to us.

How do we make them accountable to the grass roots that put them in office?
