McCain and GOP on Palin: "That's our story and we're stickin' to it."
I'm a Democrat but I've still got to say...

I just don't get it..

Was Palin the only GOP elected who didn't tell McCain "no way in hell"?

What happened?

The other side's efforts to spin Palin as the greatest thing since the wheel are just ludicrous and desperate sounding. It's all I can do not to laugh out loud when I hear them.

I'm sorry but there were plenty of better choices EVEN you ARE a Republican.

For instance:

What happened to Governor Huckabee of Arkansas? You know...the OTHER Arkansas Governor from Hope?

He ran for President this year in the GOP and did pretty well. He has an interesting story to tell about losing over 100 pounds and wrote a popular book about it. He, like Clinton is also a musician in his own rock band. He has the economic populism of Democrat John Edwards combined with the right wing Christian conservative evangelism that so many GOP'ers love.

What happened to Christine Todd Whitman? You remember the former Republican Governor from New Jersey (21 electoral votes not 3 plus next door to PA, NY, and CT not Canada) who left to become George W. Bush's FIRST EPA administrator.

Whitman would have offered environmental credentials to a guy who sides with big oil, feminist credentials and maverick credentials for bucking the Bush administration which John McCain is in need of renewing if he wants to win with independents.

Whatever happened to Condaleeza Rice? She has tremendous experience and expertise with Russia and issues of national security and diplomacy. She offers continuity if that is desired. She offers an appeal to both the women's vote and the African American vote.

Finally whatever happened to Colin Powell? He still has tremendous respect and likability amongst most Americans and also abroad. People STILL trust him believe it or not after his whole Iraq war dance at the UN. Finally, he has tremendous military and diplomatic credentials.

For all the Republican convention hogwash about how Governor Palin is "the second coming" I just don't see how anybody including a Republican could believe it -it doesn't pass the laugh test.

To me all this spinning sounds like is "that's my story and I'm stickin' to it."

There simply is no way that Governor Palin, someone who has been governor of her very unpopulated backwater state for less than two years is playing on the same level as the likes of Governor Huckabee, Governor Whitman, Secretary of State Condaleeza Rice, or former Secretary and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs Colin Powell.

Come on now... let's be honest and call this what it really is, a major league screw up on McCain's part to appease the ultra-right wing religious crowd after he made them mad in 2000 by speaking his mind.

Governor Northern Exposure was never properly vetted and now all sorts of embarasssing stuff is coming out that is sinking McCain's battleship.

The best thing she could do is to withdraw and give McCain a decent chance to pick someone better before it is too late.

On the other hand -as I said - I'm a Democrat and John McCain's screwy choice has got us doing high fives and laughing our asses off at just how far off the deep end you Republicans have finally gone.

you can add Tom Ridge to that list.

I actually met Tom Ridge in Boston about a year ago. We have a mutual friend, and he was charming and disarming. I'm a union guy, and we chatted for about twenty minutes about his dad, who was a strong union supporter. He is head and shoulders above Sarah.

No matter who the Repukes chose, however, I'll always vote for the Dem for President. It's the labor board that's important to me. Add the supreme court to that and to me, any Democrat is better than any Republican.
