Have you checked the results of your local Republican primary. Might be worth a peek! |

I'm familiar with local politics in a red Florida county and a red/blue Georgia county. So I went online to look at the results of the Republican primaries at the county and municipal level. Wow was I shocked!
In my home county, I passionately detest two politicians so I had to look up the results of their races.
These women who have been practically living on a GOP / right-wing Christian pedestal for well over a decade took a huge fall off their perch. Both are County Commissioners who loved to throw their weight around and had a passion for not just blurring the line between church and state but taking a sledgehammer to the wall. Because of term limits they could not run for the commission again. One ran for Tax Collector, the other for Property Appraiser. Go figure, their mega-church preaches Prosperity Theology. They outspent their primary opponents 7 and 12 times to one respectively. I just assumed they were a shoo-in and the Democratic candidates were going to have their work cut out for them.
In both cases they didn't just lose their primary races, they lost spectacularly. Neither one could get more than 35% of the vote. One of the races was against a moderate Republican who has held office before. The other was against a first time politician.
This inspired me to look up the other races. In only one race did I spot a seriously seasoned fairly conservative politician win the primary.
I don't know if this voting behavior could actually sway Republicans to vote for a Democrat, but it makes me wonder if there will be a fair number of undervotes from folks who just can't bring themselves to vote for the far right nutjobs anymore.
Check out your local Republican primary results and see if your area shows the same thing. I'd be really curious to see a wider cross-section.
