I don't really feel like we should have to watch this propaganda broadcast for hours on the networks and even more on cable. Presenting the Rethug "convention" in this way makes it seem like the speakers' idiotic words and despicable positions are worth noting and responding to.

Just by putting this dreck on the airwaves, the networks lend credibility to this old fossil and his trophy partner. I think the "convention" should be recapped at most at the end of the day. Who knows how many mouth-breathers are watching this, lapping it all up, and becoming even more extreme in their hateful views?

McCain has not been able to fire up the base.

Palin is someone who can do that. She can throw out the glib, humorous remark and claim common ground with the fundamentalist extremists.

Substantive - no, not an ounce of it there. A combo of female Huckabee and Reagan, a folksy "charm" mixed with a glib delivery of talking points.

Surface charm covering shallow intent. Biden can and, I hope, will shred her on the issues

She is rousing their base. Compare the audience now to how funereal they were before. Caught a few minutes of Fred's delivery yesterday and I would have sworn I'd stumbled on a eulogy. She shifted that mood.

It will be interesting to see how this works for them, since I doubt McCain can top that or even come close. It's likely he will fall flat in contrast. And he, after all, is the presidential candidate for the Republicans, not Palin.

We definitely want to keep digging and finding facts on how she's handled issues and policy. That's her weakness and she is very weak there. We shouldn't underestimate her appeal to their base, though.

It'll be interesting to see how this tactic works since I think she's just entirely upstaged McCain at the Convention. She will be a hard act for him to follow, since it will be quite the contrast when he speaks.

But she is dangerous in terms of reawakening and energizing their base. We need to keep pushing and pushing hard. Now is not the time to be complacent.

And despite MSM giving her praise, most of the reviews are decidedly negative. There are a lot of people writing posts like "Thank you Sarah Palin, I was independent but you have made up my mind: I'm voting Obama".

There's an awful lot of people writing who are disappointed in the fact that there was no policy talk, no stances taken, just pure negative politics and a "bullshit narrative" (thanks Peggy!) with her kids being used as a political prop.

One can argue that they might be dems stirring up the pot, but I truly think this RNC is driving away Independents because the GOP has not taken a solid stance on issues and have taken every opportunity to be exclusionary and devisive - precisely the kind of politics people are TIRED of.

Like I said elsewhere - the end of the DNC had a feeling of unity, inclusion and hope.
The RNC stands in stark contrast where they're almost completely saying that if you're not republican you're not patriotic.

Palin's canned speech only pushed that divisive and exclusionary message further.
