ANCHORAGE, Alaska (Sept. 3) - Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin told ministry students at her former church that the United States sent troops to fight in the Iraq war on a "task that is from God."
In an address last June, the Republican vice presidential candidate also urged ministry students to pray for a plan to build a $30 billion natural gas pipeline in the state, calling it "God's will."
Palin asked the students to pray for the troops in Iraq, and noted that her eldest son, Track, was expected to be deployed there.
"Our national leaders are sending them out on a task that is from God," she said. "That's what we have to make sure that we're praying for, that there is a plan and that plan is God's plan."
A video of the speech was posted at the Wasilla Assembly of God's Web site before finding its way on to other sites on the Internet.
Palin told graduating students of the church's School of Ministry, "What I need to do is strike a deal with you guys." As they preached the love of Jesus throughout Alaska, she said, she'd work to implement God's will from the governor's office, including creating jobs by building a pipeline to bring North Slope natural gas to North American markets.
"God's will has to be done in unifying people and companies to get that gas line built, so pray for that," she said.
"I can do my job there in developing our natural resources and doing things like getting the roads paved and making sure our troopers have their cop cars and their uniforms and their guns, and making sure our public schools are funded," she added. "But really all of that stuff doesn't do any good if the people of Alaska's heart isn't right with God."
nd a message was posted saying that the site "was never intended to handle the traffic it has received in the last few days."

mean, nasty, infammatory, lying, cheating. (add you own adjective here_________) There was not one truth or one real issue in that speech.. only meant to inflame hatred and divide America further that it already is. Some truly sick psychopathic people in that arena. Allthough, there were a few there that knew what was going on was wrong.. very wrong. A few times the camera showed the faces of a lady and a man... and they were very scarred. There was no smile on their face.. their eyes were serious and they looked like they wanted to run. I was a paramedic for a number of years.. and I recognize that look from serious MVA's (Motor Vehicle Accidents). They may have been republicans at their own convention.. but they knew was was going down was very sick.

Ok, so I made a stupid-ass typo. Sorry. I'm not here to start trouble. I just thought the speech was rather good. And, unlike, Obama, who hints at change, but gives no specifics, and who wants nothing more than to raise taxes and increase govt., her speech gave retorts to some rather obvious flaws that Obama has. Her speech was well received by those in the audience, and will be well received by 'open-thinking' Americans, unlike some of you who just want to call anyone with a differing view, sarcastic names. But, hey, whatever helps. Go ahead. And, if I am banned,,,,oh well. But, I'm really not a threat, so just relax.

46. Free clue, actions speak louder than words
and you failed your civics exam

The largest growth in the Federal Government in the history of this country IS THIS CURRENT ADMINISTRATION

The largest growth in the Deficit is again this administration

Now here is what you are misrepresenting

Yes, Obama will raise taxes ON THE TOP 5%. Not quite to the levels that Ike had them at (90%), but HIGHER, giving a TAX break to everybody else

Aka the MIDDLE CLASS (as well as the poor)

So please be specific in the TALKING POINTS

Now here is more... who WRECKED the readiness of the US Military? Will save it for you... the CURRENT administration. Even the Cato Institute, which is LIBERTARIAN by the way. has assessed readiness as LOWER than before Pearl Harbor... care to tell me exactly how these folks are good? Their actions speak quite loudly as to how much of a disaster they are for the country.

Now that you get, the headache, is called cognitive dissonance

Oh and I suggest you start doing some actual readying and INDEPENDENT thinking.

In case you are wondering I AM an independent voter and have DONE MY HOMEWORK. Four more years of the same... we can't afford... and I have not even touched on oh CIVIL RIGHTS

When you raise taxes on corp., it flows down to us all. As was said last night. The dems state that they will only raise taxes on half of the bucket (of water). Implying that the other half will remain stable. Absolutely ridiculous. But, I'm sure you'll be happy to know that I gotta get up for work tonight. 54. Read your history, and a little on the theory behind a PROGRESSIVE
Edited on Thu Sep-04-08 12:05 AM by nadinbrzezinski
taxation system.

IN summary, this means that those who earn the most pay the most while those who earn the least pay the least... which means that both pay about the SAME percentage of income... as in real percentage... not the flat tax which is not progressive and the dream of way too many libertarians... who don't get it

By the way this progressive system with 90% taxation for the top 10%, not even 5%, was in place during the Eisenhower administration... the economy worked fine. Should I remind you Ike was a republican president?

That tax rate on the top 10%^ was lowered to 70% by Kennedy, and the largest period of economic expansion in US history was 1960-1968

Here is another free clue... you do know that over the last 100 years the US economy has done BEST under DEMOCRATS?

Oh and the last four major depressions\ recessions have come under republican rule and one form or another of trickle down

let me list them for you in order

Grant Administration, 1870

McKinley Administration 1900

Hoover Administration 1929

And it is debated. whether it fit the definition for a slight depression, but it was a recession.. Reagan administration, 1986

Did I mention many economists see the shadows of a major economic meltdown due to the trickle down currently in place?

Gee what all of these have in common?

All of them are republicans

When you stack the talking points versus the historical record, they don't do too well, do they?

ed for clarity

57. Corporations are taxed on PROFITS, oh clueless one.
Edited on Thu Sep-04-08 12:20 AM by TahitiNut
"Profits" are what they get AFTER deducting expenses .... like, oh, say. EMPLOYEE COMPENSATION. Right now, corporations can lay off, fire, or off-shore the jobs and increase the profits or raise the CEO's salary. Once upon a time, corporations saw the "wisdom" of hiring American workers and expanding their business in lieu of losing that money to taxes ... so, if the TAX is now the LOWEST IT HAS EVER BEEN IN OVER 75 years, guess what? They fire people.

Just about the STUPIDEST people on earth seem to be GOPhers ... no wonder they bankrupt their businesses.

Enron economics. Idiocy.

Oh... by the way ... if you even TRIED to dip your snout in the CEO's bucket of water, you'd find your head chopped off at the pencil neck. Only a clueless imbecile thinks otherwise.

when you tax a corp., they raise prices to cover their costs, this trickles all the way down to you and me. Why you, and others, can't see this,,,or accept this, is beyond me. You think that a corp. is taxed, and then there is no impact on us??

63. It is called the historical record
mostly...

Amazing that you have not even touched the post on THAT I posted above

Here is a free clue for you

Corporations are taxed right now at about 12%... the lowest rate in US History

We have removed all kinds of tarriffs at borders

And there is more... companies are actually getting TAX INCENTIVES to move their operations overseas

I have a simple question... who will buy Wallmart's crap when we can't afford it anymore?

Oh and here is a piece of trivia for you... the cost to produce that button down shirt in the US, instead of China is about 10 cents more, which knowing how the distribution system works, adds overall a dollar to that shirt

Now if it was produced in the US... you'd have well paid workers

So why do you think Republicans encourage this?

67. Hey dipshit?
You want specifics? Like my somewhat limited brother? Download Obama's Blueprint For Change. It's only 200 something pages of exactly how he's going to fix this country.
You DO, however, need to able to understand some big words, because he uses several of them that have three and sometimes even FOUR syllables.
I'm sorry the rest of you, was that out of line?
I'm just really tired of the "He just talks and doesn't give specifics!" crowd.

75. Obama's speech was praised by his opponents as well. It was that good. And that specific.
He laid out about 30 specifics for people who were paying attention. Of course, a speech can only go into so much detail, if it's not enough for you, you can always go to his website which lays it out in painstaking detail.

People like Pat Buchanan and Bill Bennett (some of his opponents) said it was one of the greatest acceptance speeches ever. So if you're going to claim that Caribou Barbie had anything even remotely equivalent, you're climbing a steep road. Also, hint, if you're middle class, your taxes will actually go down under Obama, just as they've gone up under Bush, the occasional $300 to $600 bribe, er, return, notwithstanding.

Did she tell the truth tonight? Was it true when she said Obama hasn't authored any bills?

Seriously, if you like speeches that are full of lies and bashing then I'll give her an A+. But when watching political speeches I'd like to hear a bit about policy, you know, what they're going to do about the economy, things like that. Based on my criteria for a good speech I'd have to give her an F.

And that my friend, is the truth that seems so hard for someone of your ilk to grasp.

30. What would you like on your tombstone?
Palin speech was lie followed by a lie wrapped in a lie. She spoke of no policies but she sure attacked Obama. That is typical of the Repukes they have no issues to stand on so they attack their opponents and go to the juvinile name calling and if that doesn't work they play the fear card. Tonight I saw all three of those cards played by that group of people.

53. It's to be expected that an illiterate imbecile would have the perspective you've expressed.
... even as ineptly and vacuously as you've presented it. (Wipe the drool off your keyboard and take your meds.)

59. I'd love to respond,...
but your post makes no sense. Sorry, I tried to decipher it, but all I could come up with is, "I can't think of anything coherent to say, so I'll just spew out some ridiculous comments".

Is that close to the message you were trying to convey?

71. The problem is that you don't have anything to respond with.
Edited on Thu Sep-04-08 12:53 AM by TheWatcher
Other than typical talking points that you get from Fox and other Cable News Propaganda Media, you've been given PLENTY of chances to make your case in this thread by people who obviously are quite educated, experienced, and DO know what they are talking about, and when they have confronted you, you have NOTHING to respond with.

Go back to Post #68.

Let's see if you can intellectually challenge and debate someone.

You can't, and you and I both know it, but I have to admit, it will be amusing to see you make an absolute fool of yourself.

After all, it's your normal state of being.

And just so you know where I stand, I do not think Obama is the best answer, (Kucinich was my pick) but I am going to HAPPILY cast my vote for him in November, because the alternative spells the END OF THIS COUNTRY.

I am not willing to see my country die, because people like you are too stupid and ignorant to help it live again.

On Edit: Upon learning that you support Paul, I am even MORE amazed. McCain and his reject trailer Park Bimbo are the ANTI of EVERYTHING you guys supposedly believe in.

Ah, well, you can lead a Horse to Water, but you can't make him Think.

Perhaps you should go back to the Yahoo Boards where the syllables are few, and the number of intellectuals is even fewer.

77. Here's something you can respond to:
Respond to posts 46, 54, and 63. If you can respond with reasoned debate, backed up by verifiable facts, you can eat at the big kids table. Otherwise, it's back to drooling with the little kids, who actually have an excuse for drooling.
