3. She pleaded no contest to something
I don't know what that statute refers to, but it was a criminal charge. Failure to register something? Need to check that statute under AK law

7. It looks like something to do with her set-net permit
Edited on Wed Sep-03-08 11:02 PM by Blue_In_AK
Here's the code:

5 AAC 06.370. Registration and reregistration

(a) Before taking salmon in Bristol Bay, each commercial salmon set gillnet or drift gillnet CFEC permit holder shall register for a district described in 5 AAC 06.200. Each drift gillnet permit holder also shall register for the same district the drift gillnet vessel that the permit holder will be operating. Initial district registration is accomplished by completing a registration form provided by the department and returning the completed form to the department office in Dillingham or King Salmon. For the purposes of this section, a CFEC permit holder and a drift gillnet vessel may be registered in only one district at a time.

Somehow she must have neglected to do this (criminal negligence), pled no contest and got a suspended imposition of sentence.

11. Thanks
Had no idea what they were saying

In comments from blogs I've heard a couple times that it won't be long until salmon are extinct, but have seen nothing in the mass media about this...
Even if the salmon aren't endangered, from what I've read about Alaska's sanguine indifference to their unique wildlife (Polar bears, shooting wolves etc. from airplanes, & on), not to mention ever increasing lack of snow (strange thing to write!); once their wildlife is diminished and the polar ice cap is just sea what kind of tourism will Alaska get? What possible reason would there be to go there?

Very sad.
