Email from my Brown University educated liberal co-worker regarding Palin's speech..
Her speech was a knockout/home run for Mccain.
Much better than he could ever do...she is comfortable in front of a camera & monitor.
Really thought it was good...red meat for the base. But
Pretty offensive....snide & mocking of Obama.
They act like only they are Americans.
How will her small town Alaska mentality help in my XXXXXXX neighborhood.
Annoys me because I fear it might be effective.

2. Not surprising considering her education
She majored in journalism and minored in political science in college, so her ability to give a pep-rally speech to her supporters isn't surprising

6. I'm sure he knows that. What does it matter? She still gave the speech.
Who writes their own speeches anymore?

Every politician has teams of speechwriters.

15. What was the point of writing all those papers?
If when you finally get the very top, the speech is provided for you?

4. There's something insincere about her ... She wasn't speaking from her HEART
and I think the country will get that. She's the
Manchurian Candidate, the Caribou Barbie that you
can just feed words into (like to a teleprompter)
and out it comes ... effective but ... like being
spoken by a Stepford Wife.

I don't think the country is going to be duped by
this, even though the fundies in the hall (and
RWers in the media) are eating it up like cotton
candy (which is just about what she is -- airy
and insubstantial).

11. Not only not speaking from the heart...

There were many hidden Code Words in that speech. "Button Pushers" if you will. Example:.. "If you elect me.. you'll have an ADVOCATE in the White House." i.e. Yes.. you'll have your very own Evangelical Fundy nutbag at your beck and call. She is very dangerous. Dems need to unite as never before and cut this woman off before she gets started. She will lead to Civil War.. or worse. At times tonight.. I could almost catch glimpses of Hitler pounding on the podium while the Swaastika flags furled in the background. Ya... she was feedin' the red meat to the media all right.. and they were lappin' it up like kittens lap up warm milk.

12. Duped
I'm afraid a good lot of them will be duped. I've lost faith in my country. It has become a mean spirited place, bitter. And this speech fed that mindset.

I didn't expect Bush to win either election, but certainly not the 2004 election, yet they were close enough so he could steal them. All the Republicans need is a close election.

16. It served its purpose.
If I was taking some sort of speech class in school it would hit the mark. She spoke to the base, and they liked it. In that since it was a good speech. That is fine when preaching to the choir, but as it settles in, it is nothing more then another political speech. No one will remember it in ten years. Even very few presidents have great speech's that will be remembered over time. The reason this speech won't pass the time test is that it wasn't really deep. Not a whole lot of substance in it. It didn't truly address the pressing issues of the day. When it did address the issues it was to set up a snide comment, not to give an answer, or solution. If I was grading; not red/blue - left/right, just grading. I would give it a C+ Maybe a B- because of how she handle a biased crowd noise.
