Sarah threw down the gauntlet..
She also proved, by her snarky sarcastic speech, that she wants to play hardball. She cannot not claim to be being "picked on"..

The McCain camp thought they were being clever by taking Hillary's campaign and tweaking it to make Sarah the new standard bearer for women..

You cannot have it both ways.. If you want to be the "pit-bull" (her own words), you cannot then call yourself a frail little yorkie, when you get bitten back.

She also made a serious error by starting an unfounded war with the "press".. There's an old adage about not starting a fight with people who buy ink by the barrel-full (or something to that effect)

Not everyone shuns newspapers & magazines. they may buy them to wrap the fish in, in Wasilla, but there are many more people in the lower 48 who actually do read magazines & newspapers..and not just "Guns & Ammo" or "Moose Shooter's Gazette".

She'll get her blip on the radar, and she's easy on the eyes, but she will stumble.. Look how unprepared she and the McCain crew were in launching her. She's a big cute fish in a very small pond, and now she's a small fish in a big ocean..an ocean loaded with sharks.

It's really a hoot to realize that the fate of the free world may just rest in the hands of a bunch of National Enquirer sleuths, but it may just come to that.

The same folks who delighted in the raunchy stories about the Clintons over the years, and howled with glee over the Edwards debacle, will have to read about Sarah, and it sounds like the goings on in Wasilla and nearby environs are things that "the base" can easily identify with....drinkin' & fussin' & fightin' & illegally huntin' & fishin' & partyin' & droppin' outta school & lotsa sex, apparently.. Those things might make for a great way to pass those long winters and boring summers, but they are not national government values or real family values..

Then rear back and shower our side with lies and invective without a single thought to fair play. After all, we attacked her! so she can smear back.

I thought her MO would be to try and connect with the people, especially women. Now that she has shown her true ugly colors, I hope they don't hesitate to rip the bark off her. Or in terms she surely understands, I hope they gut and skin her.

The 1986 Talkeetna Bluegrass Festival is one of my favorite trips. We visited Wasilla.

Lots of great Alaska people visit the World Famous Pike Place Market in WA. where I work.

29. We had dinner at the Pike Market Place when we were in Seattle during
our trip

We spend three days there before the cruise...

And yes the people are warm... in both places

So Alaskans tend to be very ahem conservative and their politics make Louisiana look like pikers, while Washington is very Blue.

But we really should concentrate on this small fry and she is SMALL FRY

6. You nailed it
As far as I'm concerned the press has been far too easy on her. While the family stuff was uncalled for her opinions, issues, experience, attitude, religious beliefs, associates, business dealings and everything else we can imagine are now fair game.

You asked for it. You got it. Bend over.

39. no, don't you see? "hardball" is what GOPers use, we get whiffle balls
The dominant media narrative is not determined by rules of consistency and fair play, or even some balanced assessment of reality. It is formed by an intersection of easy presentation, market research and advertiser consent.

Sarah Palin could claim that "angry" Democrats were bullying her tomorrow, and her statement would be treated with the full credibility of someone pointing out that the sky is blue -- IF that's what would sell copy, draw audiences, and appease capitalists. The narrative doesn't bother much with memory or context, because audiences don't require it. We live in the United States of Attention Deficit.

On the other hand, the media might just see some benefit in serving up whatever sex-oriented dirt they can. If there's one thing that's proven to hold America's attention, it's celebrity sex scandals, and now that she's a celebrity, Palin's brought plenty for them to cover.

The good news is she will continue to self destruct over the next couple months, and be hounded continuously by creepy tales of sexual indiscretion, hypocrisy and fraud. Someone in the AP might even be tricked into doing investigative journalism. She might even crack before McCain and say something inexcusable even by MSM standards, which would be fun to see.

On the other hand, the GOP is just waiting for one of the Democratic candidates to bite on the juicy scandalbait. That may be grist for the media mills, but it's absolute poison to Sens. Obama and Biden.

Meanwhile, Gov. Palin will go on an extended speaking tour of rural America, to rile up the racists and the religious nuts with the very best in freepy talking points and fundamentalist codespeak. It'll be like a religious revival roadshow for haters.

and comment when they can.. Charlie Rose tonight had two reporters who did discuss the faked pregnancy.. of course they denied that they thought it possible..but they mentioned it.. One even said that the "problem" with the blogosphere was that they (the media) could not filter it..duh! that's the whole idea..silly men.. ...and the campaign will soon live to regret it.

Palin's condescending and demeaning tone is far too typical of the Grand Old Party Rhetoric for people who want genuine change.

Also, Hillary learned the hard way what happens when you undervalue the experience of a community organizer like Barack. Palin played straight into Obama's strength. Barack knows how to dump this kind of pap right back in the lap of the of the opposition.

...And as far as Biden having to be careful in the debate because she's a women, Palin has already taken off the gloves & thrown down the gauntlet -- all is fair game now.

Thank you Sarah for being inexperienced enough to blindly regurgitate the boilerplate speech written for you by you're party's elite handlers.

Good luck.

6919486, I never thought the gloves should have been ON! Why the hell is

Palin any different than Hillary? I don't recall any gloves being on when criticizing her! That's all BS from the RW claiming "she's a WOMAN!" Well TS. If you want to play in the ring, you damn well better be ready to do it!

6920013, Palin Going After Obama's "Experience"...
Posted by Indi Guy on Thu Sep-04-08 01:40 AM

...is laughable, when it wasn't her own idea.

GOP desperation led to Palin's nomination & the manipulation of "her" message.

She is so naive. The same ideological characters who wrangled Bush in 2,000 and now corrupt McCain, are exploiting Palin to the max. She has no clue.
6920056, She has no clue what she did tonight with that great speech

6919666, I agree....she came across as not likable at all. Sarcastic and bitchy.
Posted by K8-EEE on Thu Sep-04-08 01:20 AM

Plus so much of the speech was factually incorrect.
6920693, Oh Yeah!...
Posted by Indi Guy on Thu Sep-04-08 02:36 AM

The speech (notice I didn't say her speech) was top-loaded with bald faced lies about Obama's proposed policies.

Fortunately, there's enough time for the record to be corrected in the publics eye.
6920094, Good speech Sara. You over played your hand though.. Biden will chew you up..

I honestly fear for her & her family. They are so being used by these amoral power brokers.

notice the votes in thumbs up or down all favor the Republicans, apparently she hit a chord with the voters, there are even posts from Democrats for Palin.

52. good... between her throwing down the gauntlet and the whining about sexism
sounds like she wants to be treated like any other candidate. no special considerations because she's a woman.

does this then mean Biden won't have to keep gloves on when debating her?

meanwhile - this info needs to be passed along:

palin: “To the families of special-needs children all across this country, I have a message: For years, you sought to make America a more welcoming place for your sons and daughters,” she said. “I pledge to you that if we are elected, you will have a friend and advocate in the White House.’’

uhhh...yeah - right?

"For those of you who seem so enamored with Gov. Sarah Palin, it might be worth noting that she oversees the budget for the Department of Education and Early Development Special Schools in Alaska.
These funds provide supplementary educational services to students with severe disabling conditions and the Alaska Challenge Youth Academy. The resident school where the child would normally be placed does not have the resources to provide an adequate educational program. Without the supplementary services the child’s needs would not be met by the local school district in most cases.

The following programs are included within this component:
Special Education Service Agency (SESA)

The Annual budget for 2007, which preceded Gov. Palin was $8,265,300.

PDF: http://www.gov.state.ak.us/omb/07_OMB/budget/EED/comp2735.pdf

The Annual budget for 2008, enacted by Gov. Palin is $3,156,000.

PDF: http://www.gov.state.ak.us/omb/08_OMB/budget/EED/comp2735.pdf

This is a cut in special needs services to children in Alaska of 5,109,300 , or 62%."

----------

more of the same two-lipped "ownership" society rhetoric - have a special needs child? you're on your own.

53. Sarah Palin can kiss my fucking ass.
Rarely have I been as angry after hearing a speech as I was tonight.

If that bitch has ANY illusions of being the poor widdle female victim when the Dems attack her, I hope that somewhere in that dark cesspool of her mind, there is the realization that the bile she served up on Wednesday night bought her ticket for that.

May she fucking rot in hell!

55. Didn't see the screen cap until now, but I did see that clip before.
God damnit, and forgive me, but I fucking HATE these people!

They are hell bent on destroying us.

I say, let us go after them with barrels blazing.

Far as I'm concerned, that is the absolute LEAST they deserve.

Won't go negative, my freakin' white ass!

59. I listened to Mike Malloy on the car radio on the way home
He was playing bits of it and was about to blow a gasket..His critique was funny as hell,, and then when I got home I tuned to cspan and heard most of it.. She has "that voice"..the kind that makes you want to stick forks into your ears & pull your hair out..

I just hope that she pissed off the press enough for them to make Mccain's life a living hell. He was MADE by the press, and now he has withdrawn from them.. He's a gaffe-a-holic, and I'm sure his handlers don;t want any more boo boos..and not the lovely sarah is off limits too..

McCain/Palin..we're not allowed to talk to you

My son yelled.. "Gramma's got an armadillo".. It seems that my mother had overfed that poor little guy, and he could not even jump up on the couch..and he DID look like an armadillo..

63. Another recommended post.
Damn, that speech (which I only heard clips of) has generated some of the best DU posts I've read in a long long time.

Now I know what they mean by "energizing the base."

I am so freaking energized!!!!!!!
