1. I don't know, but only Quebec is a french speaking province
I imagine it would help there.

2. Nope. I've been to Montreal many many times
I'd say 99% of the locals speak fluent english.

3. huh? what does that have to do with what I wrote? I know that
most Montrealers- indeed most Quebecquois- speak fluent English. I live less than 30 miles from the Quebec border, I go there at least half a dozen times a year, and my brother's business is in Montreal and he has a home there. I was simply pointing out that speaking fluent french might help in getting a visa if you wish to dwell in Quebec. Don't know if that's true, but it has nothing to do with whether most Quebecquois speak English.

4. That depends on whether you know French French or Canadian French
It's like Castilian Spanish or Mexican Spanish.

a Montreal radio station about American politics in French, and she grew up in France. No one had any trouble in understanding her.

7. If you're thinking about moving here, it helps
If you have someone here who can sponsor you (like I'm doing for my s.o.), so much the better.

Start here: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/index.asp

Hope to see you in Montreal! :hi:
