Local teen mom thinks that there is a double standard.

Local teen mom reacts to Palin's daughter's pregnancy

Kortesha Jones, and her mother, Teresa Carroll, know just how difficult public discussion of teen pregnancy can be.

Kortesha, now 16, was featured in a series of stories in The Daily Journal earlier this year highlighting the issue of teen pregnancy. But both mother and daughter have been thinking about all of it since the news broke that the 17-year-old daughter of Republican vice presidential choice Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, is unmarried and pregnant.

It seems to Kortesha that Bristol's teen pregnancy is more acceptable to the public and that there is a double standard.

When Kortesha was just several months pregnant, she agreed to be part of the controversial series, "Mom at 15," which began last January in The Daily Journal. The stories were written to highlight an issue that affects families regardless of race or economic status, coming one month after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released a report showing the national birth rate for ages 15 to 19 rose 3 percent in 2006 -- the first increase in 14 years.

Locally, the total number of teen births in Kankakee County rose from 154 in 2006 to 219 in 2007. Teen birth rates in surrounding counties also mirror national statistics.

Kortesha and her mother said they believed telling Kortesha's story could help other people understand the issues and challenges of teen pregnancy.

Instead, both were shocked by the many negative responses they received.

1. And Kortesha would be correct -
"Kortesha believes it is because she is black and not affluent while Bristol Palin is white and the daughter of a governor. "

3. What these morons and goons fail to realize is that even the
most dumb Fox watcher knows about teenage pregnancy and know that this is an unbelievable double standard.
Put simply the way this is being covered is more troubling to parents with teenage girls than anything Bill Clinton did in the past.

10. I AGREE. Bears repeating:
"...the way this is being covered is more troubling to parents with teenage girls than anything Bill Clinton did in the past."

6. Rudy, once again...
Proves what a slimebucket he is. As if there was any question. You can find far better than Rudy in the pit below an outhouse.

13. You can make mistakes only if you're rich.
Sorry, people in poverty. You'd better be fucking perfect, because no one in this government--and quite possibly the next one--believes in helping you.
