Palin is a "common tacky hussy." That is one of the worst things you can be called in the South. |
|
I was told that by an elderly Republican lady. She would probably have me over for dinner before she
would let Palin in the door. She would consider that I was raised right with manners. As far as being a librul
Democrat she would look at that as an eccentricity and those are not disqualifiers. :7

1. I know this is true with the old-school republican women here in Chester County, PA. |
|
And from what I've seen, I think Cindy McCain feels the same way.

There was definitely a class system. The Episcopalians were at the top, then the Methodists and Presbyterians, then the Baptists (who were the most numerous and most powerful politically, i.e., Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton); the Assembly of God and Holy Rollers were at the bottom and were not usually in politics.
It's interesting that Sarah now says she is not an Assembly of God member. She is now affiliated with the megachurch nondenominational Bible churches, which are very like the Baptist church as far as I can tell except they use rock music with Christian lyrics.

4. So elderly Republican lady bases her vote on a candidate's social standing... |

...rather than anything as frivolous as policy stands on issues?

5. I think that is quite common. |

The third of America that consider themselves independent are largely people who vote based on perceived character rather than issues.

But when she started "bless her hearting" Palin, I knew there was trouble!

I couldn't help but think of that Spencer Tracy movie about the trials of Germans after World War II.
Burt Lancaster plays a German judge who supported Hitler because he thought Hitler would do what the upper class wanted. Of course, Hitler didn't.
I think the former Episcopalian McCain thinks the Assembly of God Palin will do what he wants. But if McCain becomes President, I could see Palin challenging McCain in 4 years and winning. Palin has a record of turning on those who helped her (the person who walked with her when she was campaigning in neighborhoods for Mayor and the Wasilla town manager). No, the Repubs are creating a monster who will look after herself first.
