message from community organizer

the team leader from my Obama volunteer group sent this to me:

"Last night America was given the same old divisive lines, never providing any solutions to unite our country and solve the complex problems we face together as a nation. They are trying to reignite the culture wars and attribute our problems to our candidate and party when their party has been in the White House for the last 8 years. They attacked the integrity of Barack, Michelle, and Biden, telling outright lies because they do not have a leg to stand on. Most offensive was when they laughed at us and called us followers, deriding the work of community organizing. When they did that they were laughing at our founding fathers. When they did that they were laughing at Ghandi and Martin Luther King, Jr. When they did that they were laughing at churches and faith-based groups who make a difference in the everyday lives of their community. When they sneered they were sneering at a fundamental belief in this country that when people take action in their own hands they can make their communities better and make the government beholden to the people. When they laughed they laughed at all of us and at every single American, making it quite clear either you are a part of the America they envision or you are un-American to the core and a danger to the status quo. Let’s work harder and smarter, together showing how dangerous we are to a status quo that allows hard-working Americans to go without health insurance, college opportunities, and job security, and quick to go to war and put the soldiers they claim to revere so much in harm’s way before diplomatic means have been exhausted. Let’s challenge a status quo that has oil companies interests above our own and thinks the Constitution is suggested reading. We must win in November! The stakes are higher than ever as displayed by Gov. Palin last night. So let’s go out and build our support and get people out to the polls while they make their speeches and keep laughing and sneering because when November 4th comes they won’t be laughing anymore thanks to a little thing called community organizing."
