Documenting Palin's 62% cut for special needs children
Edited on Thu Sep-04-08 06:51 PM by kristopher
Pre-Palin 2007 budget:
FY2007 Resources Allocated to Achieve Results

FY2007 Component Budget: $8,265,300

Key Component Challenges
Continuing to provide supplementary educational services to students with severe disabling conditions.

Significant Changes in Results to be Delivered in FY2007
The $433 increase in base student allocation of $5,352 will provide funding for more students at the Alaska Challenge
Youth Academy at Fort Richardson in Anchorage.

Palin 2008 budget:
FY2008 Resources Allocated to Achieve Results

FY2008 Component Budget: $3,156,000

Key Component Challenges
Continuing to provide supplementary educational services to students with severe disabling conditions.

Significant Changes in Results to be Delivered in FY2008
An increase in the base student allocation will provide funding for additional outreach services for the Special Education
Service Agency (SESA).

So she increased the allocation for all students by taking away funds from special needs children - that is what they are hanging their hats on when they deny the 62% cut - and they are denying it.

1. I think they moved a boot camp - type of academy for teens with
behavior problems from Dept Ed Spec. Education to another dept on the budget, and gave it a new name related to the military, like Alaska Challenge Youth Academy to AMYA or something.

Still, they had buttloads more money in revenue from oil and didn't raise funding for Spec Services a damn dime.
