***OBAMA CABINET FANTASY TEAM*** |
|
Good Evening Friday Night Posters,
Before a well deserved weekend break, and Friday night Sci-Fi Channel, a little post convention thread for your amusement. I've heard the idea floated more than once that it would be interesting to see Barack announce his cabinet picks to the public before the election.
But who would you want to see on board?
I'll drop a few myself, then you join in:
Secretary of State: Bill Richardson, (Ooh, I'd love Clinton, but I want her as Senate Leader) Secretary of Defense: Wesley Clark, (I'll accept Chuck Hagel, in keeping with the bipartisan theme) Attorney General: Would have loved Edwards, but we know how that turned out. Not sure who now
Anyone feel free to add a name, or kick out a whole list if you want.
Jeffy

1. Wesley Clark can't be Secretary of Defense since he |
|
will not be out of uniform 10 years yet. He would need a waiver. On the other hand, he could be Secretary of State or National Security Advisor without a waiver.
I'd like to see Robert F Kennedy Jr as Attorney General, Dr Howard Dean (once he retires from the DNC) as Secretary of HHS to put through universal health care and Tammy Duckworth or Max Cleland in charge of Veterans Affairs.

I'd accept NSA. Could he be homeland security (gawd I hope they change that name--too Orwell)?

10. Wexler would be an interesting choice |
|
I'd love to see him become a Senator but I know he's far too liberal to get elected statewide in Florida anytime soon.

5. I dearly hope Obama would convince Richard Clarke to be Homeland Security Secretary. |
|
This good, decent, COMPETENT man needs to be back in government again. His country needs him.
I hope President Obama can convince Richard Clarke to return to government as Secretary of Homeland Security.

Homeland Security is a a bureaucracy that manages more bureaucracies that, in theory, make the country more secure. Clarke's talents would be better used advising the President rather than managing the clusterfuck that is the Department of Homeland Security.

Climate change and energy policy are international issues. And he's obviously qualified to deal with other international issues.

Wouldn't Ray-guns corpse work better as some kind of advisor though?

Well that was actually inspired by a stand routine by Lewis Black. When the rest of the world sees how bat-dookie crazy we are to do that, they won't mess with us.
But everyone here can admit that the Dept. of Funk could really use some fresh blood. Ashcroft's "Let the Eagle Soar" should never have made it out of the room it was written in.

The more I think about it, the more I am in love with the idea of Clark as National Security Advisor...
That said, these are great picks, (especially the Secretary of Funk). But here's one from left-field I was thinking about: Conyers at Justice.
Or do we not want to lose him where he is?
I thought I would get more flack for saying Hagel for Defense. Anyone want to comment on it?

No, he's a throwback to the way Republican's USED to be. He'd make a good Sec. of Defense in my book.

And he is a reminder to them of what they were (hopefully a painful one after Nov 4). I think he would do well at Defense.

|
This is my dream pick... the investigator of BCCI and Iran-Contra, with a personal bone to pick with neocons, in charge of investigating the domestic crimes of Bushco. He is an open-government Dem and used to be a prosecutor back in the day before being Senator or even Lt. Governor.

|
so one of those might be his preference. It is just very important to me to have the Justice Dept. and everything else Dick and Rove have done investigated. The suggestion of Bugliosi is another good idea with respect to that.
