Put your helmet on and make sure you have a mouthguard. It's about to get bumpy.

6. Here's the deal
They are going to count the votes on election day, not how many stadiums the individual candidates can or did fill. Barak can fill all the stadiums he wants, if he doesn't get more electoral votes, he loses. It is a long way to November.

21. As I remember, that is a very conservative part of the state. and
any event like that will be bolstered by non stop phone banking and mass e-mail. If it appears like you won't get the numbers, you pay people to come like he did for his Veep announcement.

Still we shouldn't get complacent. Let's not just win, let's win big. I'm a volunteer and I urge everyone to join our struggle. We must work our asses off for Obama.

Honestly, I did not watch that part, I changed channels when they announced it was coming up. Too much mccain and palin on that news show for me. Too be fair they are represented on all the tri-state news channels, and that is usually why I don't watch news.

:wtf:

Noting that her eldest son, Track, spent much of his senior year attending a Michigan high school, Palin told the crowd that she owes many thanks to the state -- and earned a cheer when she mentioned Track's love of hockey.

"Michigan, you took care of my boy," she said. Now, Palin added, he will help take care of them -- he will soon be deployed to Iraq with his Army unit.

So ... she farms out her kids to other states???

and there has been a lot of racist comments out there and a big seperation between the city and suburbs. The newspapers there have constantly put Kilpatrick's name (disgraced black mayor) and Obama's in the same sentence. I just moved away from Michigan but I wouldn't doubt that there is a lot of support for McCain...just not for the right reasons.

36. Just playing devil's advocate, huh?
I do agree with you that the reTHUGs will use every trick in the book to try to steal this election, too, and I've said that here many times.

I've also advised people to verify their registration status well ahead of their state's deadline to make sure they haven't been purged, as I was.

We're not naïve here and we don't have an "echo chamber." The MSM runs the echo chambers.

Thanks to our diligent member researchers and posters, I've learned more truth about the opposition here than anywhere else -- since it's gathered from so many different places and scrutinized by so many sharp DUers -- and we can still get positive support and encouragement from each other.

What we don't need to see here are gratuitous comments like, "McCain is on fire." No he isn't.

The only way McSame will ever be on fire is if someone lights a flamethrower under his pasty ass. THAT's reality. The rest is all BushCorp smoke, mirrors, lies, and stage dressing -- and exposing that, not reinforcing it, is what we should be doing.

I can see that being the doomsday herald is your way of contributing, so I'll leave you to it. I have my own ways of contributing, too, though beating the streets from Mexico presents logistical problems.

Carry on! :patriot:

71. We got more than that in Battle Creek this last week for Obama.
Sterling Hts., part of the Detroit Metro area, the largest metro area in Michigan, and they only got 7000 there?

From what I heard (I was in the ER at the time with my asthma), practically half of Battle Creek showed up with tons of people from the area. They filled the baseball stadium to overflowing (15,000 there), and there were still people on the road trying to get in. One guy reported that his best friend in town started driving over to the stadium (10 minute drive) at 5pm and still was nowhere near the place at 8:30pm.

Sterling Hts. is more conservative than a lot of the rest of the Detroit area, and they only got that many. I think we'll be okay. The rest of Michigan is leaning more toward Obama than I've ever seen, and people are actually talking about it. I'm getting good signs over here, and if we can win Detroit *and* the rest of the state, we'll win Michigan by a huge margin.

82. Sorry about your asthma.
As has been pointed out, stadium crowds aren't necessarily the same as votes.

However, I do think that people who will go to all that time and trouble to get into an arena for a few speeches will do whatever it takes to make sure their registrations are valid and VOTE.

I think Democratic turnout will be unprecedented.

We can do this!

Yes, we can! GObama/Biden!

24. People in Michigan are generally and totally pissed off.
Their jobs have all gone overseas and the even the small business owner is hurting.

My brother lives in Michigan (I was born there, but never lived there) and for some reason, he's blaming the Democrats! He blames the unions (the workers made TOO MUCH money). In Detroit, the black mayor who is under this cloud of scandal, is just proof that black people can't be trusted. By brother sent me all kinds of mass e-mailing things he got and were being forwarded on with all the RW talking points. He did that until I replied to all, and sent rebuttals.

As near as I can tell, in Michigan, the economy sucks and the corporate media has succeeded in convincing people like my brother that it's the Democrats fault!

We have a long and difficult row to hoe.

it's redneck heaven. kid rock? he's from 8 mile, which he claims is the detroit side, but it's really macomb. trailer parks, unwed mothers -- palin's entourage, basically. there are a lot of union folks in macomb, but they aren't the same as the union people in other part of the state who know what side their bread is buttered on.

the pukes are running an ad there tying Obama to Loser mayor, just because at one time, before loser mayor was outed, Obama said "good work" to him. this tying of him to the mayor is a repuke talking point and has no basis in reality, as usual. in fact, the pukes are the ones who have way too many unsavory associations. If macomb knew she was a dominionist, it would be over, for example. but they will like her Act. she's got a good one and they're her audience.

there is a richer part of macomb if they're talking GP (is that detroit or macomb?) and those people are pukes for the most part, though there are a few libs thrown in.

It's funny how every article changes what part of mich is important. Oakland was the "get" last I heard, and it has gone from puke to dem. But you don't hear that in the msm.

we need to write letters to the papers and tv stations there with outrage over anyone who carries this false ad against obama, which his being paid for by the guy who swiftboated kerry I believe.

45. I don't think Kid rock was trailer park people.
he comes from upper middle class folks. He only pretends to come from the rough part of town. A poser big time.

47. yeah, he wasn't in gang land like he pretended
8 Mile (the Movie) showed him in trailer park land, but at any rate, it isn't exactly a mecca of educated informed people. I mean...these are walmart pod people.

He acted like Hate Mile was the 8 Mile in Detroit -- but 8 mile goes all the way into white bread Macomb, where he posed his way into being a rap star.

:rofl::rofl::rofl:

49. Grosse Pointe is in Wayne County (as is Detroit), not Macomb County.

70. I remember Grosse Pointe as being repuke land
Used to date a guy from there. He took me to a place -- it would be my first experience seeing "little" black people in nice uniforms holding out towels to whomever came in and out of the bathrooms in this exclusive, all-white club. I was horrified.

75. It's the 'home' of the formerly 'nouveau riche' auto barons, including the Ford family.
Edited on Sat Sep-06-08 10:46 AM by TahitiNut
The Ford family is notoriously far-right (fascist and antisemite) Republican ... and they hire in their own image.

Nowadays, it's aptly lampooned in "Grosse Pointe Blank" with John Cusak. Real estate. Private security guards. Insular.

50. Oh well, they're obviously morans there in that part of MI.
Send McCain/Palin to San Francisco & then see if they get a rock star reception. If that were the case then we'd REALLY be in trouble, but as of now I'm not worried. If Michigan does go red, then they are doomed, let them turn the lights out when the last job leaves.

52. Racist Idiots there with that war mongering spirit....I used to live
in the more affluent part of Macomb County and you have some dems but they are too racist to vote for Obama. I told my neighbor before I left he was an idiot to vote with the same people that cost him his freaking job!

By the way.......Kid Rock's son is black/white. He may be from the burbs and act like a country bumpkin but he's very well liked in the black community. I wouldn't tie him in with the trailer trash out there.

54. What are his and Obama's chances in Michigan right now?
Because from polling I've seen it can be placed in the Obama camp, though not as heavily as one might like.

79. Crowds mean nothing, and anyone who's watched a few election cycles knows it
Earlier this year, just before Kucinich dropped out, I got a phone call from his campaign asking for money. Now I volunteered for the Kucinich campaign in 2004 in MN, where he got 17% of the vote and actually won some precincts in the Twin Cities.

But this year, none of us who had worked on that campaign had been contacted, and people who called national headquarters to volunteer never had their phone calls returned. (Which leads me to suspect that the campaign was full of moles.) That phone call, a week before he dropped out, was the first time the campaign had contacted me, and I hadn't moved or changed my phone number since 2004.

Anyway, I told the caller that I wasn't going to contribute to a campaign that didn't make use of its existing resources (dedicated volunteers with a proven track record) and that the campaign had absolutely no presence in Minnesota.

The caller told me rather huffily that Kucinich had been attracting huge crowds in New Hampshire.

We all know how well that turned out. Dukakis was attracting huge crowds in 1988, too.

Huge crowds mean NOTHING.
