Let The Battle Begin! Obama slams McCain on abortion rights!
Right on! I just found this via Digby, and, like her, "I am very, very impressed"!

Let The Battle Begin

This is it. The Obama campaign is going on the offensive with a flat out liberal appeal on a culture war issue. No more mushy post partisan nonsense.

I am very, very impressed...

Obama ad slams McCain on abortion rights:

Barack Obama has launched a broadside against John McCain’s opposition to abortion rights and moved one of the most divisive issues in modern American politics to the airwaves on a large scale for the first time in this presidential campaign.

Obama’s new radio ad, airing widely in at least seven swing states, tells voters McCain “will make abortion illegal.” It’s airing as McCain courts female voters with the addition of the staunchly anti-abortion governor of Alaska, Sarah Palin, to his ticket.
...
Kate Michelman, an informal Obama adviser who is the former president of the abortion-rights group NARAL Pro-Choice America, said she expected the campaign to expand its appeal to women on issues of abortion rights.

“This is a door opened to a longer campaign and strategic effort to ensure that women know the truth about John McCain and Gov. Palin,” she said, suggesting it would come “on the radio, in the mail, on the phones, and in the organizing on the ground.”

“By his nomination of Gov. Palin, McCain has made his opposition to a woman’s right to decide a major campaign issue,” she said.

It's just about time, and the significance of this action cannot be overstated.
I believe this is the first time Obama goes on the offensive, and this is awesome news!!

1. Access to safe abortion IS an economic issue.
I'm very glad to hear that the Democratic ticket is standing up to the anti-choice ghouls. Unintended pregnancy is a heartbreak for those unprepared, uninsured, and with no back up. Not everyone has a family who can (or will) help, and nothing except perhaps addiction is a quicker path to poverty. The state has no business forcing women to bear children. K&R! :dem: :dem: :dem:

2. I heard an Obama ad
on the topic of McCain being anti-choice twice within 4 hours here in Indianapolis on Friday. I've only lived here for 1 yr. and thought it odd due to the conservative reputation of IN. But, maybe they think the issue can play here.

3. But, but, everyone on DU tells me that the abortion issue is a red herring
and that the RW will never overturn Roe v Wade!!!!!! How can Obama be so STUPID!!!!!11!!1!!

:sarcasm:

I'm tellin' you: the man is SMART. He is not gonna ignore this most important issue. He wants to draw McPalin out so the public will hear about their stand against abortion EVER IN THE CASE OF RAPE, INCEST, and the party platform's stance even in case of threat to the woman's life.

4. I'm with you, Kestrel...
I believe they know what they're doing, and I also believe it's fine (and necessary) for us to discuss and expose all pertinent issues (abortion, race, etc.).

:)
