Several right wingers said they were impressed by her RNC speech. I found quite a few RW's in online forums who said the same thing. All were greatly impressed by that speech, good looks, and charisma.

But then I asked each of them, what specifically in this speech gives you the impression that she represents change for the better? What solutions to the problems caused by Bush can be found in her words? And while most agree that the Bush regime has caused today's problems, what different political direction will she take and where can that be found in her speech?

Not one person answered me. Nobody could actually find anything of merit in her speech. Not one meaningful solution to the Bush created problems could be found. Thus, all were impressed by her good looks and charm. But nothing of substance could be detected in her speech or campaign.

I would like to see DU members challenge RW's to offer proofs that Palin's speech contained any substantive matter.

Where Palin helps McCain is the far right that just could not get behind McCain, and would have stayed home - she also helps with the group in the middle who can't bring themselves to vote for Obama but are also so mad at the Republican party they would just stay home.

If Palin can survive politically between now and November (and this is very open to debate) , she has a good potential to get those 2 groups to show up at the polls where they would have stayed home. What it means is that the Democrats have to be flawless on turnout.

Numbskull Republican at work who likes Obama "I really do" and thinks I'm terrible because I won't give the Republicans "a chance." He said to me, when he asked if I'm watching the convention, "why won't you try to see their perspective?" I said, "Why? I've seen it. It's not pretty."

He swears he wants to be convinced to vote for Obama. So I printed out AP's factchecking article on Palin's speech and took it work just for him. I knew he'd bring up Palin, and asked me what I thought. I said, "which parts, the lies, or the half-truths?" He said "prove it she's lying." I whipped out the article, gave it to him. He read it. When he brought it back, I said, "well?" He basically said, "so?" So I said, as I knew I'd have to, "so what's the point in you saying you have an open mind when an article like that has no effect whatsoever on you?" He didn't know what to say. So I finished with, "I don't like talking politics at work, I get emotional and loud. Not a good thing."

That's how they are. He's a nice enough guy, but he's got the political depth of a pee puddle.

Conversely, one of our company owners was asked if he watched her speech. He said, "No. I didn't want to throw up."

A interesting story i will share with DU underground? I worked the polls in 2006. I remember a old hag came into the precinct. While my Doctor and his buddies were shooting the S$3t with me about how the Republicans fu#$ed everything up. She walked up to us and shouted out "I LOVE BUSH!" very loud Everyone in the voting area as stopped what they were doing,and gave her the get the hell out of here look. Also, voters waiting outside as well as pedestrians stormed into the voting area. One Puerto Rican woman said, "Oh no she didn't!". That old woman walked up to the ballot table. The ladies threw the ballot sheet at her. Later, the woman said. I'll come back later. When she left, everybody went back to what they were doing.

It was total silence. It was like in the movies the record scratches. If anyone on DU underground witness this, it was the funnies moments ever.
