Sometimes I feel guilty being a Democrat in New York
I know I can still talk the talk, and there are a lot of stupid right wingers in New York. But in reality there is no "fight". New York will vote Democrat, it's a given. I both envy AND feel empathy for those of you who have to fight every day to get the message out.

Thanks to all of you who dare walking into the lion's mouth every day to get the word out!

Keep fighting everyone! Our dreams are so close to coming true!

2. You, and I live in Florida.. Seriously, there are enough minorities now,
that it should be nice and blue every time.. But many don't vote.

7. Any many don't vote their best interests
The Castro Republicans are still strong in So. FL.
And the Catholic and Baptist churches are a strong right-wing influence.

And I plan on helping in other states, doing some phone banking, emailing, that kind of thing.

6. I feel like it's a waste of time
to be a Democrat in TN. For the most part, it's Republican Hell where we live. But even the Democrats we know won't vote for Obama because they believe all the bullshit emails about him being a radical muslim. They listen to Fox noise and nothing else. They can't be bothered to learn the truth. When I try to talk to them, they decide they don't want to talk politics after all. :banghead:

Shoot, I can't even get anywhere with one of my kids, who thinks there's absolutely no difference in the candidates ... but only bases that on something someone else told her, not on any research she'd done herself.

15. Keep voting, especially in the local and state elections. Do
whatever you can to keep Repubs out of ANY and ALL offices.

19. You just can't get through to some people. My brothers are both
very right wing and they do not listen to reason. One finally admitted to me last week that McCain was not a great candidate (this was before Palin)...when I asked him how McCain would be different than Bush, his reply was "he won't, he'll be the same as Bush and that's fine with me, everything is okay in this country." :banghead:

20. Exactly!
One of my friends is really wasting her time trying to talk to one of her other friends. She asked him if he's better off now than he was 8 years ago and he replied that he actually is, but it's because he pulled himself up by his own bootstraps. Yeah, right. :eyes:

21. The thing is, my brothers are NOT doing better than they
were in the 90s. Both used to be fairly moderate conservatives until they started watching Faux News for ALL their information. It's become almost impossible to have an actual political conversation with them, they just spout talking points.

22. I doubt many people really are.
Even if take-home pay has gone up, it doesn't buy as much.

Fox is SO dangerous. It's hard to believe we have so many people in this country who actually think it's "news". :(

8. I was just thinking this today
Makes you kind of wish we could take some of the excess votes and send them to other states. Oops, that would negate the electoral college wouldn't it. Can't do that.

9. Very important we never let anything keep us from the polls though
No matter how "wrapped up" a state may seem for our party, never ever think you don't need to vote. Even long time blue states can turn red with enough apathy.

11. Being a Dem in Arkansas is very exciting
because one never knows how it's going to break.

Since 1976, our electoral votes have gone thus:

1976 -- Carter

1980, 1984 -- Reagan

1988 -- Bush

1992, 1996 -- Clinton

2000, 2004 -- Bush

I think Obama has a very good shot at getting our 6 (count 'em, 6) electoral votes.

Couple this with the fact that 5 of the six congressional seats are held by Dems, as are all of the constitutional offices in the state.

Yippee!

17.  I never feel guilty about being a Democrat in NY and in fact right now proud of it. I also live in
area of NY which was Red when I moved up here almost 21 years ago, and in 2006 we voted in my Congressman John Hall, a Progressive Dem who took the seat from a Bushbot.

18.  I know what you mean
..living in MA. I've made some phone calls from home, into the lions den that wasn't too much fun. Next week I start at my local Dem headquarters. I think it might be less intimidating making phone calls there with other people around me, than by myself at the kitchen table.

23. Don't take ANYTHING for granted (from a fellow-NYer)

Dangerous thinking...

My husband works with a McCain fanatic.

I recently found out my hair stylist was leaning towards McCain (to my surprise)... I talked to her for a bit and had her thinking more about Obama, but she strikes me as the type to listen to the most recent person she talked to... her family is all conservative-leaning apparently.

My daughter tells me a lot of her friends (9th graders) keeps saying McCain is better... which means they are likely repeating what the hear from their parents.

A woman at the store the other day asked me why I wasn't afraid of Obama (???) when I stated to an acquaintance that I'm a huge Obama suppoter.

My sister-in-law was leaning more towards McCain until Palin was announced... now she's 60/40 leaning more towards Obama... but NOT sold!

All NYers...
Do NOT be lulled into thinking NY is safe...

24. Oh, don't get me wrong, I'm still heading to the polls this November!
Being able to vote for Barack Obama this year will be one of the proudest moments of my life. My wife and I are trying to recruit as many votes as we can!

But even still, I'm still pretty positive New York is a lock.
