How is it that the repuke champions of big oil have been more successful

Than Democrats in positioning:

a. Democrats as the real enemies of energy independence and the cause of high gas prices

and

b. themselves as the Davids who have fought against the big oil Goliath?


I've seen ad after ad here in Colorado attacking Udall for causing high gas prices (by opposing drilling and exploration). He has run ads showing Shaeffer for the big oil shill he is, but they are being outrun by the ads attacking Udall by at least twenty to one. Palin has repeatedly characterized herself as "standing up to big oil" in Alaska, when she is obviously their shill--advocating more exploration and drilling, etc.

The Democrats need to counter this. It might be too late. 90%+ of voters don't have a clue why they are paying more at the pump and the believe whatever the TV tells them is the reason. I'm already hearing Jane and Joe Sixpack telling me it's all the Democrats' fault. Polls show popular support for increased drilling and exploration.

The oil interests and the repukes OWN this issue.
