Community organizers, volunteers - fight back
I received this e-mail and passing it along - it's time we make them apologize for their cheap hypocrical stunt:

We were appalled last night as we listened to speaker after speaker at the Republican Convention demean the fine work of community organizers. It was insulting to the people, young and old, who work to better our nation, starting in their own backyard.

We are proud to be community organizers and we are proud that a community organizer might be our next president. We honor the work of community organizers, and we urge you to join us in honoring them.

If you appreciate the tireless and sometimes thankless work of these agents of democracy, please do two things:

1) Go to: http://www.iamacommunityorganizer.org/ and demand that McCain and Palin apologize to the dedicated present and former community organizers around the nation;
2) Send this to everyone you know and ask them to sign on.
Thank you in advance for your support.

1. come on folks... make them eat their words and choke on them
have you ever dropped some money in a can at the store for the animal shelter? for someone to receive medical assistance?
donate blood? helped out with a school fundraiser? boy scouts? girl scouts? youth sports?

then you are a community volunteer.

do you donate to or work in a volunteer ambulance, volunteer fire department

then you are participating in community organizing

every donate to the salvation army, goodwill, or local church?

then you are part of a community organization

the repubs postponed their convention for political purposes, for cheap photo ops, for times when it presents a political opportunity

make them eat their words

8. As one.....
...it was with disgust that I heard that no good Saracudda bemoaning all activists/organizers via her attack on Obama.

It is interesting to note that the 'cuda has been placed within an electronic vote of becoming heir to running the free world. Just what the fundies have been dreaming of is within their grasp. Now all they need is Diebold etal, to come thru. Mcsame had better watch what he eats, eh?

3. something else we can all do
letters to the editor demanding the repubs apologize

write/call/contact your congresscritters - if they are dems, demand they call on repubs to apologize if they are repubs demand they issue an apology

or perhaps we should demand congress acknowledge and honor all who organize communities and those who work/volunteer in those organizations

a communty organization day?

Feel free to adopt it for your own letters. I would also suggest you send it to your senators, representatives at the fed and state level as well

On Wednesday night, Governor Palin stood before the Republican convention and belittled Sen. Obama's work as a community organizer. She is repeating this insult in other appearances and it's being echoed by other Republican campaign surrogates.

Many vital services are provided by community organizations and volunteers. Are we to now believe this work is of no consequence, that it is something to be used only as a political tool? The Republicans postponed their convention, presumably to provide community service – was their intention really to provide “service” or was it just another political opportunity for a photo op?

That Senator McCain, Governor Palin and others in the echo chamber are unable to see their own hypocrisy is mind boggling. They will take full advantage to parade volunteers and community workers on their stage when it suits them, and insult them if when it’s politically advantageous.

Community workers, volunteers from those who work with animal rescue groups to our volunteer fire departments, from the leaders of our Girl and Boy Scout troops to church groups, from homeless shelter workers to the meals-on-wheels volunteers, from the volunteers who adopt a highway to our first responders – these volunteers, these community workers all deserve an apology.
