4. This one is supposed to turn WNW , brush Cuba and then
hit somewhere on the US mainland. I'm hoping everyone in its path stays safe. It would be a turn-up for the books if it reaches as far south as Jamaica.

6. Ferocious Hurricane Ike threatens Cuba, Gulf
Ike's top sustained winds reached 135 miles per hour (215 kph), making it an "extremely dangerous" Category 4 on the five-step Saffir Simpson scale of hurricane intensity, the U.S. National Hurricane Center said.

11. this is`t going to be pretty
the south is going to be very hot and humid next week with thunderstorms. the midwest and west is going to be cool and dry with just one or two storm fronts. otherwise there`s not going to be any cool fronts pushing down from the north.

this could be a very bad storm.

12. In the Keys
Edited on Sat Sep-06-08 06:13 PM by cwydro
we're anticipating a damn uncomfortable couple of days.

Tourists have been evacuating all day. General evacuation originally called for tomorrow, but they are "reevaluating" the time right now. We'll know tomorrow.

Airport closes Monday and hospitals as well.

14. my folks have a small tropical fruit grove
just north of you in the Cutler Ridge,Redlands area. Looks as if Ike is projected to brush just south of them. Stay safe down there.

16. Yeah, Cutler Ridge got clobbered in Andrew, I remember.
Miami is looking safer by the minute. They may not evacuate any of the mainland now. We're 150 miles down here and we're watching it closely.

I really feel for the Turks and Caicos; they are getting slammed. It's a Cat 4 right now.

19. Looking a little better for the folks based on this map
and it looks loke the keys will be in the NW quadrant. This one is going to be a tough one to ride out. Hope you are safe.

Cutler Ridge was literally destroyed in Andrew...

21. Yes, the general evacuation is going on now.
Airport closes tonight around 7. Hospitals close tomorrow early.

If that thing wobbles right we will be in for some bad bad days. We're on the dirty side of it as it is, not going to be fun starting tomorrow evening.

22. I feel bad for the poor folks in Cuba
Ike looks like it's going to line straight up and track stright up the center. Although that will help weaken the storm, it's looking grim for them. Once it gets back into the Gulf it's going to strengthen and this will not bode well when it makes landfall again...

Batten down the hatches and stay safe.

17. The tracking on the NOAA website tends to be right on the
money lately, and it shows Ike skimming across northern Cuba for a ways, then heading for, you guessed it, NOLA.

20. Looks like it may be drifting more westward towards S. Texas
NOLA looks like it might be spared this time but too early to tell. Looks like it will do a lot over Cuba which doesn't need any more, before it gets into the gulf and strengthens. Landfall in US next weekend?

18. Turks & Caicos getting hit hard right now.
That's a hard ride on much of that area. Provo is pretty flat ... nothing to break the wind and the water would almost flow over the whole island.

Crist on NBC with an EOC conference now.

The slightest turn WNW and Florida is in deep trouble.
