Palin's Biggest Deficiency?
Alaska is as far from, and as isolated from, the U.S. as Hawaii. She is woefully disconnected with the Lower-48 and has an abridged relationship with people and politics outside Alaska. As far as I can tell she has the least amount of interconnectedness with America than any other Vice Presidential Candidate ever.

Schooling in Idaho and Hawaii and trips outside Alaska are majorly deficient for her to know any more about us than we knew about her pre-V.P. selection. She can not Governor what she does not know or understand. Especially the way she has seen to operate in Alaska as her way or the highway mentality is so Bush-like. She's American but as far removed from our shared experience as it can get. This is not a positive value -- heck she's closer to Russia!

Hell Alaska is a Welfare state. They hunt fish and pretend that they are the bad ass and live off the bounty of all.

2. IMO, her radical positions will be more detrimental than any of
the issues you mention, although they will all contribute. But her views are so extreme and out of touch with the mainstream that they will be her downfall, once the 'novelty' of her candidacy wears off. Only hard core fundies and neo-cons will stick with her after that, everyone else will be turned off.

10. I disagree....
I think Mrs Palin will resonate with a lot of voters, particularly the "low information" types who make up such a huge portion of our electorate.

I'm already hearing rumblings from my own family and I know that if I try to argue it will only degenerate into a real life flamewar.

23. I should blow my family apart for no benefit at all?
Make no mistake, I've argued politics with my family before and it never turns out well. They are neither stupid nor freepers but they are classic "low information voters" and arguing with them is completely pointless, it's like trying to get me to care about football.. It's not going to happen.

I live in a very red area of one of the reddest states, how I or my family votes is not going to change anything here.

And the fumes I'm sucking are financial...

Tell ya what, it makes DU a far better place to keep positive and progressive, and you bummed my trip by your negative words. That's whay I had to beat on you. Can you dig it?

29. Are you a sports fan?
I'm not and when I start hearing sports talk MEGO (my eyes glaze over), I don't know the lingo and it bores me beyond tears..

That's the way they are with politics, you can almost watch the synapses turn off in their brains. Kind of like the scene in 2001 A Space Odyssey where the astronaut is unplugging HAL's memory..

The most frustrating part is they all know that I'm far better informed than they are on politics, history, pretty much you name it, they will ask me specific questions every once in a while but if I try to volunteer any information at all I get told I'm "browbeating" them.

16. Yeah Provincialism is accurate
There is something unseemly about an accomplished Alaskan that translates to a NO BODY in the 48% that is the rest of the U.S. Run thought the Republican imagery machine Palin is most omnipotent. PRESTO out pops this tenacious Conservative pit bull. She leaves a body count. I doubt real politicians down i the 48 will yield to where her ego out strips her reach.

An Alaska incommunicado retreat for a few weeks so to develop your mouth piece education and indoctrination into the horde of soul-selling Social Conservative Corporate Tools. No doubt there's more to this story.

She's really a blank slate onto which the mind control master of the RNC shall write. "Don't worry Sarah we've develop your narrative."

Edited on Sat Sep-06-08 09:43 PM by StClone
Throw these worthless fucks into that group too, though they came by it via a differing route. Whereas older folks grew up in a world of some hardship and blame outsiders and minorities for their troubles, College Pukes are pampered. Most under thirty and live in a reality vacuum that allows them to cotton to the ideals of Nordquist, Rove and Reagan.

43. I didn't say we should stop fighting.
I just said people my age are sick of hypocrite moralists (not all of them on the Right) whipping up people into a fervor over social issues and demonizing "the other" while poverty, healthcare, the environment, and our crumbling infrastructure gets ignored. It's why I've supported Obama since before he got in the race.

45. You said you are sick of the culture war...
You have two choices, give up and let the right have their way or keep fighting.

This crap has caused a great deal of friction within my own family, nobody hates it worse than me.

I've been going back and listening to some of the music I grew up on back in the sixties and seventies. What struck me most strongly is that we are fighting the same battles against the same enemy we were back then. In that respect things haven't changed at all.

I'm old and tired of fighting, we lose this one and I'm going to be too discouraged to keep fighting any more, I'm going to leave it to you young people and just doze off in my recliner.
