1. There's an election Oct 14. |

It's not unusual for our governments to call snap elections when they think they are ahead. The Poutine PM (I like that!) decided to break his own law about fixed election dates and set it for next month. They dissolve Parliament so they can all go into election mode. It's not really a surprise move here. Everyone's been watching the polls for months, waiting for the right numbers. Apparently, the Conservatives feel they are slightly ahead right now and are hoping for a majority win. Personally, I think we will get another minority very similar to the government we have now.

I completely understand that you're all too busy with your own election to pay attention to the boring minutiae of Canadian politics. Rest assured that everything that happens is thoroughly planned, passed through numerous committees, and drowned in red tape before being executed (or forgotten in the bottom drawer). It only seems like interesting things happen here if you didn't read the memo sent out sometime last year.

4. We Americans know where Mexico is (they're taking our jobs!) |

Well, maybe not all of us.
I was just shocked when I heard it because it sounded like trouble.
I've never liked Harper because he's too much like Dumbya.
