because frankly I am a little sick and tired of whinners

Those who are making calls, knocking on doors, and registering new voters are in this to win

all others please post elsewhere

1. Some folks can just keep talking
I converted a Hillary supporter who was going to vote for McCain back to Barack. It took some persuading, but it worked, and now she's excited about him.

A friend of mine kept pounding on one of his Republican friends until she finally said, "You know, I think I'll vote for Obama." He'll stay on her, but it's a start.

Some of us have put in our time doing the knocking on doors and passing out pamphlets and registering new voters. We did it for Bobby Kennedy and others.

Now, some of us can work the nation, one person at a time.

3. ....
Continue to give money to the campaign
Volunteer to register voters
Talk to everyone who talks to me about the issues - I do wear my Obama tee and buttons everywhere

Now, get off our fucking backs. We're entitled to be worried and complain about Obama's approach in these crucial days leading up to the debates and election.

Don't like it? Put me into your ignore list. I could care less.

22. Some people are hopeful, which is great, but we can't ignore the fact that ...
... the election hasn't happened yet.

We have 57 days left.

We have to fight until then.

Maybe until January 21st.

Interesting food for thought here - I got the impression from the RNC convention that the choice of Sarah Palin was to fire up the conservative base, NOT reaching out to the middle. The article claims that if the 'Pukes are still firing up their base at this stage of the game, their goose...er, MOOSE is cooked.

are hoping to motivate people into making physical contributions to the effort. I have been posting on DU for a few days (since 2002)

Please keep in mind that there are many who are just plain physically challenged and it is damn near impossible for them to leave the house. I have known several faithful posters (Old timers from the early days)who are no longer with us "the living", they have long since passed away. They had various physical and health related problems that prevented them from doing more than pecking away at a keyboard. Most of them did not tell us of their aliments, it was only after their passing that their friends or family who informed us of there passing and the condition that they lived with.

While they could not be out there fighting the good fight in the physical sense, they were cheerleaders that kept this board going in those humble early days, it also gave them a reason to keep on living, I am sure that holds true today.

There are also people that are currently holding two jobs or more just to keep their heads above water. While trying to maintain a family life all at the same time. This just may be their only release valve in to order keep their sanity.

Everyone contributes, even the ones who are just not able to pound the pavement for whatever reasons. You can bet that they are staying informed and talking with others who are not that well informed.

Weather it be in a waiting room at the doctors office or standing in line at the post office or just having a conversation with a neighbor. I believe that if folks are coming here they are contributing in some form, and I also believe that is how things are going to change. Its very commendable for those who can and do get out and contribute what they can, but don't think for a minute that people are just coming here to complain and thats the end of it. I hope I did not come off as flaming you or being condescending, just letting you know that not everyone can be a fire brand, glowing embers yes, everyone here.

Just giving my two cents, and yes some of those old timers had an awful lot of patience with this former republican who had become disillusioned with with his party. They answered my questions and welcomed me to this big tent, there are still many of those old timers posting and lurking here. I am a convert thanks to there patience and tutelage in DU etiquette and the fact that they were always here when I came around. I am the GOP's worst nightmare, I am truly a former republican and made my conversion here on DU, I actually switched parties and made the announcement here on DU. So post away all you evil DU'ers, people like me are looking for people like you.

RR

23. Like Einstein, I'll take a stand and then, take my leave.
If the brainwashing machine is successful, there is no use fighting a mass of zombies.

I think it takes as much courage to walk away as it does to engage in confrontation.

Listen. There is no use in name-calling or other belittling activities against participants on this board. Those who are ENGAGED in pro-democracy will do their very best to sustain democracy. However, it's ridiculous to demand sacrifice for a mass of people so lost they are incapable of distinguishing good from evil. Even in the liberal/progressive zone, there is evil,...contrary to "popular belief". There is nothing wrong with preserving and protecting oneself from overwhelming odds. Nothing.

24. Word of mouth. And if the majority of the people in the US don't want to hear the truth,
then I'm joining the other side.

I know exactly what they stand for, but if it's going to be a nation where you have to profess neocon beliefs to even keep a job (which is what Bush did and what Palin would do), and America says "A-OK" to that, then I'm finished with this fight.

I'm tired of being the prey and the victim.

but I live near Nevada--so I have been going over there to help out. Have sat in a mall several weekends registering voters, knocked on doors, made phone calls etc.

And I am driving about 2 hours each way to do it.

38. you know--that would be an incredibly
kind way to help. I know people would really appreciate that.

My vehicle is a old, beat up heap--and it is a bit of a guzzler--but I have a relative in Reno I can stay with, who treats me to meals etc--so it is a pretty cheap trip for me to go for a couple of days at a time. Would suck to do it as a daily commute. I usually stay for 3 days at a time (I am out of work--so it is doable for me). It is still a sacrifice though. And I worry about getting on my relatives nerves.

I am really really doing my best to help Obama win....

31. I kicked in another $25 and continue to harass networks with
E-mails. I was mad because Obama wasn't challenging McCain's lies as much as I wanted him to, but Obama started today and the media even joined in for once. I'm happy now. I'll kick in again as much as I can but I'm low income so it won't be a lot.

36. Push a bit harder to ask others to volunteer.
I'm also increasing my phonebanking. I tired neighbor-to-neighbor... and there wasn't ANYONE in my neighborhood to target. Very, very sad.

I haven't made a trip to VA or PA yet. I think that's next.

Frankly, I wish I could think of something else I could do, other than take a leave of absence.

I'm fresh out of ideas. But I'm trying to think outside of the box.
