Rachel's been outstanding on MSNBC as a panelist and guest, and her debut certainly lived up to expectations in this household! I loved that Kent Jones was there, and I thought she handled "Uncle Pat" (who seemed particularly venomous) quite well. The interactions between Keith and Rachel are wonderful--it's clear that there's mutual respect there and that they genuinely like each other.

It's so nice to see her while listening to her for a change. I didn't even mind Pat Buchanan because she's able to go toe to toe with him and she got that last zinger in with panache.

The set? Not my favorite. I think it could be much better--it looks cheap. And I think her producers have to make sure to get top guests on the show because that's what's going to make it work. Rachel by herself is amazing--I'd watch that in a second--but I want to see her have guests like she has on her radio show. Her stable of great guests is at least as deep as Keith's.

78. Morning-after thoughts...

1. They played it very safe, and that's ok. I think she just needed to get through the first show without missing a cue or looking foolish, so they recycled KO's Obama interview and, of course, had the presumably calming presence of KO as her first guest.

2. Love that she has a regular segment called "talk me down." This could be really good in the coming weeks. (It needs a cartoon graphic of Rachel standing on a window ledge, maybe?)

3. Her next three guests both reinforced and challenged her a bit. T.D. Jakes made it clear TRMS wouldn't be an amen-corner echo chamber. And of course she knew Patty Buchanan would come on and cry about how we're being meanies to poor, poor Palin. Nicely handled all around.

4. Timing needs work; I thought Kent Jones seemed a little slow compared to the zippy, fun bits they'd done on the radio but that'll come around. I'm very glad Kent's on the team; I know Rachel was very upset at his being let go by AAR.

5. I'll tune in tonight and expect everything will mesh a bit better.
