Your Favorite Political Speech
What is your favorite political speech? If you were touched by the quote "Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country" what was it about the quote that touched you? In your favorite political speech what was it that touched you about that speech?

2. There are so many, but I'm going to go with something recent...Edwards 2004
My most recent favorite was John Edwards' 2004 DNC "Two Americas" speech which was also his acceptance speech. I was walking through the living room, caught it as it was beginning. I never sat down. Watched the whole thing standing up. Caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror over the fireplace and I was grinning from ear to ear. I didn't even realize it. I had so much hope back then.

I know it's not a fair answer considering all the incredible speeches throughout history, but I figure no one would mention this one.

5. Oh, without a doubt,
Nixon's resignation address to the White House staff on the day he departed the White House.

Sweating, jowly, eyes bouncing around in his head, he was right on the edge of losing it.

A truly great moment in our history.

7. Amen that!
My Dad called me inside from playing and made me watch it on our brand new color TV set by Magnavox.

I was in the 3rd grade.

My Dad just used to hiss at the T.V. set everytime Tricky Dicky came on.

9. Your Dad and I could have hissed in harmony
I was a law student. It was colossal, seeing the Constitution at work.

I miss the old Big Dick.

6. All Time Favorite by John Lennon

An interview with John Lennon by a young teenager in 1969.

Plus some great animation at the link.

(I love so many political speeches, but this is so simple and basic).

10. I like different parts of different speeches.
Here's one I like form the RFK Memorial for JFK.

If we do our duty, if we meet our responsibilities and our obligations, not just as Democrats, but as American citizens in our local cities and towns and farms and our states and in the country as a whole, then this generation of Americans is going to be the best generation in the history of mankind.

Don't know why, but once I read that, it always stuck with me. I was only four when he made the speech, so of course I don't remember it from that. It must be that I read it once along the way, or saw him deliver the speech in rerun when I was older, but to me it perfectly sums up what all of us should be doing every day.

He was talking about service. Oh I don't know, maybe someone else read these words and was inspired in part to become a community organizer.
