Re: My brother died for this country in Iraq 8-Sep-08 08:00 pm he(Bush) said. "We should welcome competition because it makes our country stronger and more prosperous."
FROM STAFF AND WIRE REPORTS
March 25, 2006
HOUSTON - In a city housing thousands of Katrina evacuees, Barbara Bush's donation to a local hurricane relief fund would not seem controversial.
But more than a few eyebrows were raised when the former first lady stipulated that part of her contribution was to be spent on educational software purchased from her son Neil's company, Ignite Learning of Austin, Texas.
"I would think if she wants to do something beneficial for Katrina victims, she shouldn't be making the decision that the vendor is her son," said Daniel Borochoff of the American Institute of Philanthropy, a charity watchdog group. "Other education experts need to be making that decision, not somebody who has a family interest in the success of her son's business."
Barbara Bush's donation to the Bush-Clinton Houston Hurricane Relief Fund was made a few weeks ago, said Steve Maislin, president of the Greater Houston Community Foundation, which administers the fund.
Maislin would not disclose the amount of the donation, but said it's not unusual for a contributor to specify how his or her money should be spent.
But Borochoff said, "If everybody started doing that, it would ruin our whole system for tax-exempt organizations because people would be using them to benefit their business rather than for the public benefit."
Barbara Bush contributed to the relief fund instead of directly to her son's company to help publicize the fund, Maislin said. "We could advertise the fact that she was supporting the fund and help build momentum to increase donations," he said.
A Bush spokeswoman was not available for comment.
Neil Bush, 51, founded Ignite Learning in 1999. Its products are meant to offer different content to children with different learning styles (verbal, visual and kinetic are three examples).
In the late '80s and early '90s, he was a board member of the infamous Silverado Savings and Loan, the collapse of which cost taxpayers $1 billion. He was not indicted and a civil suit against him and other directors was settled out of court. He was restricted from future banking activity.

So? Are we family and friends? 8-Sep-08 08:40 pm For some reason I dont feel sorry for you.
1. Why the hell post in this site about your brother? There are more appropriate places to do this.
2. US Gov did not take your money. Plz dont play the Woe-as-Me and play the victim.
3. Part of life is win and lose in the stock market. Do you understand that the stock market is not Social Security? No one took your money. Your money (dads) lost in the market. Blamers end up in poverty, if not already in it.
4. What is worse, thousands of Americans have lost their job. What is worse, losing your job or losing your savings?
5. Don't post here like that again plz. We are all patriotic and love this country to death. We all should be greatful for the opportunity to make some money in a game of chance in the stockmarket. We should be grateful and lick our wounds.
6. March on. Wipe your tears. Say goodbye to love ones. Help the living. Rating :

Re: So? Are we family and friends? 58 minutes ago Horse@#$%!
He should cry at home with his family.
And not Poop on everybody here losing their investment.
Last time I looked this is a message board for investors and specifically Investors concerned about FRE..
What this board is not is an avenue to act like a bleeding heart liberal looking for folks to cry over him or her...
just my opinion.
As for FRE investors.
Down so much it will kick back up a little---maybe.
So wallpaper or hold... Rating :
