Countries that have Republican abortion laws |
Wow it seems like the majority of these places have dictators or theocracies. Coincidence? The Fundies will be glad to see that Hugo Chavez is NOT a "babykiller!"

1. I can count the places I'd actually like to visit on two hands |
and the places I'd actually be willing to live for an extended period on one.

2. Well in reality, Ireland and Monaco, they can catch a train |
to UK or France, so they still technically have a choice.

5. Can you really w/o government permission? |
Even here we have to have the permission of the US government to travel.

6. Well in those countries (Ireland , Mexico & Monacco) it is common practice |
They are trying to change the law in Ireland just because it's an added expense and burden that just tends to make for later abortions -- right now they say about 6,000 women travel to the UK yearly to get abortions. It's unknown how many travel to get the early abortion pill.
that's the thing, ban abortions and you are really just creating another black market drug, since so many are done at home using medication now, within the first couple of weeks.

9. Err, I meant permission to travel |
In this country you have to ask for and get permission to travel. I've been turned down three times for a passport so I don't have permission from the US government to travel. I've been to Canada twice, but that is before Canada started requiring the US government-granted travel permit.
I know in other countries getting a travel permit can be a difficult process. A friend about thirty years ago in Mexico wanted to travel, and he couldn't get the permit. I don't know if things have changed there.

4. Actually Mexican women can get legal abortions in Mexico City now |
But not in the provinces. So that's kind of like Monaco & Ireland.

8. Kinda like the US, as well. Abortions are legal, but not available, in most counties in the US... |
The murderous branch of the "pro-life" movement drove out the doctors and their clinics, meaning small town and rural women must make some excuse for a day-trip to a large city in order to have an abortion. Source: Planned Parenthood, quite some years ago.

10. That's true of course if Roe was overturned it would be MUCH worse |
If several BibleThumper states ban it then with the size of this country, it would practically be like traveling to another COUNTRY rather than the state capital or whatever.
All it's gonna do is open up the Back Alley business again. Desperate women will still get abortions. They still get them in Saudi Arabia, where they get beheaded if caught.

7. Not on this list: Israel |
Women soldiers can get 2 free abortions -- the state pays the bills! I wonder what the fundies who always are spouting off about "Judeo/Christian" ethics would think about that relaxed standard.

12. Add Northern Ireland to the list... |
... yes you got Ireland... suppose it covers it... but Republic of Ireland is separate to Northern Ireland which is considered part of UK. But NI has its own laws... and when abortion was legalised in England, Wales and Scotland it wasn't in Northern Ireland... left illegal except in cases of mother endangerment, rape, foetus abnormalities or if the mother has severe learning difficulties.
