NBC Uses Fear & False Witness To Promote Thought Crime Bill: "Terrorists With An American Face"
Edited on Tue Sep-09-08 11:13 AM by kpete
NBC and Roger Cressey Warn of "White Terrorists" Plotting and Planning in the U.S.

In an article on the front page of MSNBC’s site and apparently aired on national NBC and MSNBC stations, http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/26564997/ Robert Windrem spins a harrowing tale of the terror to come at the hands of people like you and me; American “terrorists” - Terrorists with “an American face.” Quoted in his article is Roger Cressey, an interesting choice to say the least.

HR1955 Violent Radicalization and Homegrown Terrorism Prevention Act of 2007, http://www.govtrack.us/congress/bill.xpd?bill=h110-1955 the bill that promises to crack down on meetings of peace groups and the internet activity of “dissidents” like myself (and most of you reading this now).

That bill has been sitting in committee http://hsgac.senate.gov/public/ just waiting for the right moment to spring on a terrified nation. Remember the resistance HR 1955 received when they first came out with it? Well, just like the Patriot Act, sometimes bad bills just need a little good timing to get passed in congress without much complaint. So what is Joe Lieberman waiting for?

...........

In this article, Windrem draws extensively on his interview with Roger Cressey, former NationalSecurity Council official in the Clinton and Bush administrations and now an NBC News consultant.

....................

Roger Cressey was directly tasked at that time, leading up to 9/11, with the prevention of terrorist attacks on U.S. soil. And however you look at it, he failed miserably. Unless, of course, you happen to own oil companies or stock in the military sub-contractors who have turned massive profits since that horrible day. Then your opinion of Sept. 11th may be a little different than most.

...................

(After 9/11 he started his own consulting company:
he started his own corporate security company Good Harbor Consulting.
http://www.goodharbor.net/)

That’s right; Roger Cressey failed to protect America, and now he is paid, massive amounts of money, by companies that have reaped huge benefits from Sept. 11th and the “Global War on Terror”.

So that is who NBC is parading around today talking about “the white men of Waziristan” and the ongoing “war on terror”?Roger Cressey: A man who failed in his task to prevent 9/11, profited immensely from that failure, and a man who would be out of a job if there wasn’t a “war on terror”

“If you understand what his bill does, it really sets the stage for further criminalization of protest,” Kucinich said. “This is the way our democracy little, by little, by little, is being stripped away from us. This bill, I believe, is a clear violation of the first amendment.”

Kucinich referred to the bill as the “thought crime bill,” when he explained in a joking fashion that, “We have freedom of speech. Thoughts, sometimes, proceed speech. There is usually a unity in thought, word and deed.”

The bill would create a National Commission, who would be charged with the task making legislative recommendations on how to prevent, disrupt and mitigate violent radicalization and homegrown terrorism. Many activists, scholars and civil liberties experts are worried that in order to prevent an act of “homegrown terrorism,” people who have radical or “extreme belief systems” would have to be monitored before a criminal act might occur. This, they surmise, would amount to unlawful surveillance of individuals who are critical to the Bush administration and those who hold power in the current economic and political system.
