6. When I clicked the Yahoo! "steal" headline about two hours ago...
...which was on Yahoo!s homepage, the next page which came up had the "draws Obama's attention" headline.

And yet they still got away with it for hours.

2. The title of the story..
Edited on Tue Sep-09-08 04:46 PM by stillcool47
is different from the title on the Yahoo page. Here's the actual title
Omaha's electoral vote draws Obama's attention
By ANNA JO BRATTON, Associated Press Writer

I wonder if the AP is aware of this?
• Obama tries to steal Nebraska electoral vote from McCain

3. meh
if you read the article, its not that big a deal. and their amended title "Obama Tries to Steal Nebraska Electoral votes from McCain," if that's not what it was when you read it, is fairly clear

10. people often read headlines on the Yahoo home page without reading the stories
The article itself just shows that the campaign is planning ahead--nothing wrong with the article. But anyone who reads just the headlines is going to see the word "steal," and that is not okay.

People don't have time to read the story behind every headline. They assume that the headline sums up the basics of the article. I'm willing to believe that it was a dumb mistake... but I am still upset, because if this campaign isn't going to be about the issues, according to the wishes of the McCain campaign, words like "steal" matter.

4. STEAL? WTF? This is BEYOND CRAP
"Reliably Republican, Nebraska has been giving the GOP all its electoral votes in every presidential election since 1964. Democratic candidate Barack Obama is trying to take just one of its five votes this year by focusing on Omaha, the state's biggest, most diverse city."

snip

"Only Nebraska and Maine divide their electoral votes, though the votes have never actually been split. Obama has opened a campaign office in Omaha to make a play for the electoral vote decided by results in the 2nd Congressional District, which would be essential to victory if the election ended in a 269-269 electoral tie, neither candidate reaching the mandatory 270 electoral votes."

Stealing is illegal. Being intelligent is not.
This headline is completely unacceptable.

5. No he's not. Did you even read the article??
He isn't being accused of trying to steal as in cheat. He is giving McBush a run for his money by campaigning and advertising hard in Omaha. Don't post things and make inflamatory comments without understanding context.

8. "a black man tries to steal something that belongs to the white man"
is the meme that they are trying to get out. We all know that it means Obama is working hard to flip a red state, but the wording is full of negatives.

"Obama bench aims to steal". As it is, it's just a black guy and theft in that headline.

32. With all due respect Jack, this ain't no fucking game!
This is our last chance to reverse the suicidal, fascist direction of this country. Stealing is what the Bush Crime Family did in Florida in 2000, and in Ohio in 2004. It's not comparable to baseball references (Yankees suck BTW  ) and it's not comparable to a Democratic candidate winning a partial electoral vote in one of the two states that actually does the weird split thing. (Maine is the other one, I think? )

How many saw the wrong headline will be a mystery that only Yahoo and the asshole who wrote the misleading headline will know.
