Palin Billed State for Nights Spent at Home
Article | ANCHORAGE, Sept. 8 -- Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin has billed taxpayers for 312 nights spent in her own home during her first 19 months in office, charging a "per diem" allowance intended to cover meals and incidental expenses while traveling on state business.

1. Finally
I think she's been getting a free ride for the past week and a half.
Hopefully, journalists will get their cojones back and start doing their job :)

10. Where the hell is the rest of the media on this?
Nothing but crickets chirping. Is this not supposed to be questioned either? Is this somehow a sexist attack, too? If Obama did this or Biden did this, it would be the lead news story every friggin' hour.

19. Same place they are on McCain not knowing how many houses he owns.
As usual, the Repukes can do what they want. I am shocked that The Washington Post reported this; they must have let it slip in mistakenly.

7. Her predessor was just a bigger crook
It's the old joke:
Would you have sex for a dollar - do you take me for a whore?
Would you have sex for a million dollars - you're just a high price whore.

A crook is a crook and a whore is a whore.

20. Likely true
Frank Murkowski, Senator Murkowski's father ( who appointed her) was worse. The debunk is to compare her to Knowles who preceded Kurkowski.

11. She charged the state of Alaska for staying in $707 a night hotels
Is a $707 a night hotel room expensive? I haven't stayed in a hotel for so many years that I'm really out of touch with hotel prices. It seems a bit high to me and, if it is well above the norm, how would this play with the working class and rural voters she's trying to impress as far as her reformist image goes?

From the 3rd page of the article:

"One event was in New York City in October 2007, when Bristol accompanied the governor to Newsweek's third annual Women and Leadership Conference, toured the New York Stock Exchange and met local officials and business executives. The state paid for three nights in a $707-a-day hotel room. Garnero said the governor's office has the authority to approve hotel stays above $300."

15. That's about what a single occupancy room at The Plaza would cost per night.
Edited on Tue Sep-09-08 05:33 PM by TahitiNut
NOT one of their smallest rooms, but one with a King or Queen ... and about 450-500 sq ft.

It's NOT a suite, either. THOSE get really pricey.

12. Questions to be posed to the people are "Does your boss pay you for driving to work?"
Does he pay you extra for your meals when you have them at home?
Does he pay you extra for sleeping in your own home at night?

Sara Palin had the taxpayers of Alaska pick up the tab for living at home.

People will get that.
