NY TIMES: Mississippi's Ballot Trick
Editorial
Mississippi’s Ballot Trick

Mississippi’s governor, Haley Barbour, and its secretary of state have come up with a particularly cynical dirty trick for the November election. Let’s call it: “Where’s the Senate race?”

Defying state law, they have decided to hide a hard-fought race for the United States Senate at the bottom of the ballot, where they clearly are hoping some voters will overlook it. Their proposed design is not only illegal. It shows a deep contempt for Mississippi’s voters.

Republicans have long had a lock on the state’s two Senate seats. But this year, former Gov. Ronnie Musgrove, a Democrat, has been running close to Senator Roger Wicker, a Republican, in the polls. Mr. Wicker was appointed to the seat by Governor Barbour in late December after Trent Lott stepped down.

Mississippi election law clearly states that federal elections must go at the top of ballots. And the secretary of state, Delbert Hosemann, plans to list the state’s other Senate race — incumbent Thad Cochran is running far ahead of his Democratic challenger, Erik Fleming — where it belongs, right below the presidential contest.

1. I just watched "Mississippi Burning" on Encore during Palin's love fest. If people would watch this
movie and get a feel for the outrageous racist behaviour of the 60s, it would be enough to fire up ANYbody to prevent republicans from EVER taking control of the White House or our government again.

Young ppl think the 60s were cool.

4. And those murdered were empowering black to citizens vote. Black people STILL don't have that right
in this country!

Maybe not all of them, but I believe most Repugs are cut from the very same mold as those KKK men

6. I have two words for this
Vigilante Justice - May he not live to draw another racist breath if he is released from prison.

"Lucas says attorneys are preparing motions now for Seale's immediate release. Seale is 72 years old and in poor health. He has been serving his sentence in a federal prison in Indiana. Before and during the trial, Seale denied involvement in the killings."

2. They just don't care....
They will do what ever they please and continue to do it because no one has stepped up to stop them...

No one.

The Democratic Party should be down there like hair spray on Haley Barbour to challenge this travesty in federal court.

5. Name one presidential election that Republicans won by using their
issues. Eisenhower??? But then he really wasn't a Republican.

Republicans don't even have a conscience about their campaigns. Not one drop of honor.

What I can't figure out is that there are some people in this country that consider themselves to be independent. Fine, but how much intelligence can they have if they buy into the crap that the Republicans peddle?
