Scare Tactics: Important! Or: How do you handle the Fox Question?
Edited on Thu Sep-11-08 10:51 PM by 20score
I have never been one for scare tactics; consider them to be a deplorable tool of the right. They damage not only the people who fall for them, but also the rest of the country that suffers from the votes the scare tactics caused. Witness the 2004 election. This is not a discussion about whether or not the vote was legitimate, because under objective circumstances it should not have been close.

What is completely different, even if it is in the same realm, is truth that happens to be scary. When the truth happens to be threatening, it motivates, which can bring about needed change.

What I am suggesting be pointed out, by pundits and politicians and amongst friends, is that for over twenty-five years the government has been dismantling societies safety nets; at the same time the economic system has become more fragile and complicated. Plus, everything put in place to prevent another depression has been taken apart to allow ever larger profits. If today we were to suffer not just a recession, like we are now, but a depression, how would people cope? Most pensions are gone, welfare is harder to get, and even food stamps are less plentiful.

My question to those who may support McCain/Palin: How will you survive if McCain continues the Bush economic policies that brought on this recession, and they cause a full-blown depression. What will you do?

1. Besides trolls, I don't think there are any here
McCain supporters I mean. Me? Having been poor all my life I'm not used to having anything so it's not gonna be my first time in a garbage can or fishing or trapping.

5. How to talk to a republican?
unfortuneately, we all know a republican here or there. when politics comes up they usually are armed with talking points and inflamitory statements, if not plain old wishful thinking.

Those things can make them infuriating to talk to. Or should I say "at" because it seems they just don't seem to listen.

I like this question. I will try 'using it' on the next 'publican I can.

thanks 20Score
